You should probably concentrate on your career goals and let skating take a backseat for a bit. *GASP*
I didn't, and while it is one of only a few regrets I actually have, it is still something that gnaws on me a couple times a week. If you start now, there is no reason you won't be able to live your life in 4 or 5 years. Being 23 and "resuming" skating isn't a bad thing especially when you have a stable career that affords you new skates and time off (to go to BCSD, of course).

Been awake for 36hrs in the woods, just got back home. Now I need food, beer and sleep. Hated so fucking hard this night, a small recon/sniper team consisting of two other guys and myself were sent out to reach this hill without much preparations. After fucking extreme rock climbing with heavy gear we reached the spot and the rain was pouring. Kind of a bummer there was no vegetation to use for shelter, and we had no tent, no waterproof sheets (english??) and no source of fire (couldn't make a fire and compromise position anyways though) :lol: Got fucked so hard by the weather, soaking wet and shook like a motherfucker till 9am this morning before climbing down. Haters gon hate, and I hated.

I think it's been almost 2 years since I last posted. LOL

I've been living in a little village on an island in India, some early and temporary retirement. I don't really skate anymore because.. dirt roads and stuff.
I like it here. It's a very simple life. When I go out I feel like I've stepped into a time machine and am somewhere 200 years ago.
Life is good, no stress, no worry. There's no hot water. I have to wash everything by hand in a bucket. Sometimes I take a bath in the river. It's over a billion degrees every day and if the electricity is running I get a little fan to cool me down. If I want drinking water I have to walk 20mins round trip to get it. I go cruise and visit temples and hang out with monkeys, cows, dogs, Indians, etc. I wear traditional clothes daily (a piece of cloth wrapped around your waist like a towel and a huge shirt). I drink tons of plain tea every day brought from a few hours away from Darjeeling. Chai is good but will give cavaties and diabetes like all the Indians have.

I live on $50 a month. That's more than the people around me have to live on. My flip-flops are bling-bling compared to theirs. The sun comes up about 4:45am and it's best to be awake before then if you want to get anything done out of the sun. I read a lot of books on my ebook reader, it's been great to read all of the books that I've been wanting to before but never had the time. It's a simple existence.
I didn't turn into a hippie or anything, I only got tired of the daily grind in the West and saved as much money as I could and left.

I saved some thousands of dollars plus one-way ticket money for here and where I go next. Since I spend so little, I have plenty for emergencies if I need it. I got really messed up from some illness and crashed and had to go to the hospital. The price of the surgery, the bed stay, the IVs, the check-in fee, the meals and weeks of antibiotics and other medicines cost me a grand total of less than $55 USD. It's really, really easy to die here. I'm always seeing people carting dead bodies to the river to burn them.
Anyway, it's cheap. Tourist visas only let you stay 6 months. I got some guys in the government here to do some paperwork to let me stay up to 10 years without leaving.

This is where I was living near Rajasthan. The whole area is a desert. This was in winter, it was hot! It's really easy to get people to believe the smoke there is from Muslims bombing stuff. It's not true, just something was on fire. The Muzzies here are really mellow, maybe because they are out numbered. The area I live in now was having a big Hindu festival and some Muzzies came and threw some bombs into the crowd and it killed some people. A local Hindu tribe got pissed off and rode into the Muslim area with their swords and started cutting people's heads off. When you're not in the city, this is seriously how people get justice. That happened about 1.5kms from where I am now.

I know what I wrote was serious and stuff, but it's India, not Fallujah. Weird and crazy stuff happens, but this is home to IT nerds and education culture, huge industry and people that make their own clothes with their hands. It's usually really mellow and the people are very friendly and like to talk a lot. I am happy here and don't fear for my life or anything. India has an amazing history that's still all around and a really cool culture (for the most part). Think The Darjeeling Limited and Russell Peters jokes and not Slum Dog Millionaire. There's a movie on Netflix (back when I had that.. I miss it) called Welcome to Sajjanpur and the lead's village is kinda like where I live. It gets a little hectic here sometimes and the newspapers is full of crazy stories and murders, but foreigners don't have to worry too much about that unless you're walking around in gold chains and expensive clothes (Israelis going to Goa).
The only thing I worry about is getting hit by some of the awful drivers here. I've seen it happen and my dad saw some guy explode while he was holding his wife's hand out on a family walk with her and the kids. I think Indian drivers are worse than the Chinese drivers.

Today I had a long walk to a poet's tomb this afternoon and took the boat both ways since it was on another island. There are river dolphins and they surface regularly. They follow the fishing boats to get easily meals. They are awesome. While on the boat I was looking at one and looked up just in time to see some 18-20yo girl washing her vag out in the river. LOOOOL. Everyone bathes in the river here. Seeing 70yo titties hanging out is the norm.

The big cities like Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai have all levels of standard of living and people can make quite a pile of cash there for Indian standards if they qualify for it. It's nice enough for a middle-class family that I think they are dumb and greedy to try and move to the UK or the USA or AUS when they could live at a much better standard of living here with less money.

Rollerblading and rollerskating became very popular in Kolkata recently. I was reading the newspaper and they had a 2 page spread about skating in Kolkata where tons of people take lessons and go on mass rides together. It recommended aggressive skating as good exercise and focus. All the interviews with the people were like "I like skating because I can just leave my house and go anywhere and do whatever I want and have fun the entire time." The Kolkata skate club started with 5 people and now has 4000. There are skateshops in Kolkata. If I lived there, I'd buy some rollerskates. All the men here wear bell-bottom slacks and shirts with witty slogans like "Narita-Tokyo," and "Hey! Bitch!" (saw that one a couple weeks ago), so rollerskates would be very acceptable.

Oh yeah, and there are TONS of Russians and ex-bloc country people all over India. Almost all women too. They took over the prostitution for middle to upper class buyers and it became such a problem that the Indian gov. started requiring background checks for all women coming here from the Ukraine. The women in the Ukraine got upset and protested the Indian embassy topless with signs that said "we are not prostitutes."
There are tons of Ruski and bloc ladies marrying slimey Indian dudes to get out of their cold, dark existences and go to a warm place where they don't have to do anything except their smelly hubbies. The moment they get married, they get 5 year visit visas for life and, if they want, after 12 years they can apply for citizenship.
Those bitches are 10 feet tall and look like ex-boxers...

Not sure why I wrote all of this. Maybe it's because I don't get to talk to people that I can relate to by past or understand how I'm seeing things anymore. I live like an Indian and do what they do, but I can't see the world or think like them. I think I am going to be messed up when I get back to the West and the weird and expensive standard of living catches up to me. I've been sleeping on a pile of straw wrapped in a sheet. Red ants live in the damn thing and bite me from time to time. I don't even notice this anymore, I only think "phew, no bed bugs!"
I'm kinda scared to go back and see giant SUVs and $10 sandwiches and unaffordable medicine and doctors and people who spend all day worrying about the way they look and working out and Zone dieting and reading Fox News and caring about Edward Pattinson's face that looks like a foot. I know that you can't live forever and I honestly think so many people (myself previously included) don't understand this. Maybe it's because I almost died here, but I want my life to be a lot more simplified from now on, no matter where I am.

I can take a dump anywhere I want to. This is why I am in India.
