what is the difference between the standar 608 bearings and the micro bearings that are used in hockey sometimes(i think)?

micro are smaller

micro are smalleri know that, i meant performance wise

Micro bearings are smaller and thus lighter so supposedly the reduced rotational mass is supposed to make a noticeable difference in acceleration and glide, but most people don't really notice any difference other than they do make your skates a lot lighter (on a fitness/speed skate that is, with four or five wheels). They're real sensitive to dirt/water and they don't do nearly as well with impact so they're not too hot for aggressive skating. They were kind of a fad in speed and fitness skating, most people have gone back to normal (608Z) bearings.

fad.
They tell you how much lighter & less rotating mass 688s have, but they didn't tell you the wheel takes 3/4 of that weight saving back. And they're weak and they can't take any dirt.

Bones is moving in the opposite direction, they have 608s with 6 ball bearings instead of 7. The balls are bigger, and there's more contact area so that should make 'em stronger and therefore faster under the kind of forces that we put on bearings.

So the bearings would be larger?

The balls are larger but the bearing is still a 608. The races are thinner at the centreline, and the groove radius is larger.

The bearings we use were designed for applications that don't torque or side load the bearings the way skating does. In theory, making the balls bigger and increasing the ball/race contact area reduces the losses due to deformation & friction from negative forces.

actually all Bones Bearings and Crap Bearings internal geometries are built around skating tolerances. the 6 balls offer faster acceleration and about the same top end as the normal Swiss.
