how much did you guys have to pay for one? im watching a tv show on the autobahn right now and they said that they cost a lot more over there...

Myself I've paid a total of AROUND 500 euros, but then again people say I'm an exceptional driver. It depends on hours. someone fairly average can get easily thru especially if you know people at the driving school they will write more hours than you have so you can pay less than minimum hours > cheaper.

To get a provisional license (so you can start having lessons) in the UK costs about 50 quid I think, then lessons were about 25 an hour and it is up to you how many you have before you are ready to have the main test which costs about another 50 quid. Can't remember how many lessons I had but I know that it cost me a fair amount of money since I couldn't practice at home since my family don't have a car.

do you mean just the license itself?

or the price of lessons, tests etc?

ha

well over here you dont really HAVE to take classes... i took a class at school for free and that helps reduce your insurance by 10% and then all i had to do was take a written test for my learners and then for my actual license i just had to take a driving test that was about as easy as going around 2 city blocks... accelerate decelerate test, and a parallel parking test...

and i drove cars around as a kid all the damn time so i never really needed lessons... but i guess its a lot more strenuous over there than here...

Bazodazo
30.06.2009, 13:28
yeah, driving ages normally start around 17 here, i think its compulsery you have 10 lessons (at least in england) before you take your test

you can take further lessons after your test to have your insurance reduced, but no one ever does them

That seems rather complicated. :?

I went to school with this girl from Germany and she said it cost three hundred dollars.

NathanC
30.06.2009, 13:41
why does it cost so fucking much?

Why is it so complicated to get a license

What is the typical amount you pay for insurance?

because they dont let any old person on the roads before making sure they're sort of safe

isn't a separate license required to drive as fast as you want on the autobahn?

i wish our licensing laws were more like europe's. it's too easy for any retard to get one.

haha you should be. you have no idea the terrible things i've seen people do. girls are bad overall but it's mostly the old people that do legitimately life threatening things.

but still you think europe is good, i can see major holes which should be focused on

a lot of the drivers in england that drive on 3 lane roads think that the different lanes are meant for different speeds, not for just over taking, then going back to the first lane.

but im happy at least in the UK, they have things called MOTs, which is an examination of your car, which makes sure its road worthy, and its pretty strict. I dont think america has things like these right? or am i wrong?

Makes sense I guess.

Plus you guys have a shit load of public transportation alternatives to choose from. That really doesn't exist in the US. I assume you don't need any sort of license to operate things like scooters? Dirt bikes?

well road, car, and driving wise you guys are a lot better than us.

at least your drivers use the 3 lanes for different speeds. in florida, all lanes go the same speed which is 5-10 mph under the limit. people don't have the first clue about lane discipline or using the left for passing.

we do have inspections but they vary by state. they're mainly emission based. there isn't really anything that makes sure your car is actually road worthy.

Bazodazo
30.06.2009, 14:00
i dont get why they dont do stuff about this

before you know it a lot of states are going to end up packed just like india's streets

NathanC

My car wouldn't pass inspections, if I brought it in today. :?

i think its compulsery you have 10 lessons (at least in england) before you take your test

I took my test after 6 lessons and passed first time getting 3 minors. I also did it in the space of about 2-3 months. Aside from laziness I never got why it took people 30+ lessons, 8 months and a few tests to actually pass. You just have to drive sensibly and use your mirrors and indicators where appropriate.

my driver's test consisted of a 30 question multiple choice exam that you have to be retarded to fail and then i drove around a neighborhood for 5 minutes and did a 3 point turn.

holy shit, thats incredible

we had to do 30 questions multiple choice (now its changed to 50), then you need to do a half an hour exam, where you will be tested on 3 point turns, parallel parking, whats under your hood, how you test your tyres and check them for blemishes and more.

I don't think its stupid, the differences are just insane though when you think about it.

NC you have to take a 25 question test. You can miss 3 (I think) Then 5 minute road test, 3 point turn and ...I can't remember the fee, but it was below 100, you just have to show proof of insurance.

Virginia is surprisingly similar to European laws.

1. Take Learner's Permit test - 25 multiple choice obviously retardedly easy.
2. Enroll in driving school - do the in class stuff and pass the tests then the in car driving practice. I think we had to do 7 sessions in car, I only did like 5.5 and they signed off regardless.
3. Go sit in a courtroom and listen to some judge bitch you all out before you do anything wrong.

The European 3 different speeds for the lane's perfectly describes I-95.

Thats incredible that you can drive in America after such a short time learning. The driving test over here is really strict, lasts on average just over half an hour. If you miss a mirror check once, you fail.

Obviously it takes alot longer to learn in a manual car, but I dont think I could ever drive an automatic.

health check - 15$
mandatory 5hours of theory and 30hours of practice- 350$
exam- 25 from 150questions then 40minutes of driving (now changed to at least 25)- 50$

£40 for a provisional license.
£28 for the theory test.
£27 a lesson. I did about 13.
£120 for the test each time if you use your instructors car. I passed second go.

So as you can see, it's pretty expensive.

And my insurance is £1000 a year..
