View Full Version : my rb solo review (no pics, sorry)

So, I bought a pair of trs solo estilos on sale in the local shopping mall. My reason to buy was the price, and the fact that they looked like they would skate similar to salomons with widebodies.
I immediately set them up with my featherlight frames, and went skating once but didn't like the frames in the combination with these boots, cause of the big soulplates i almost didn't have to bend my knees on royales.
so i decided to try out the stock rb switch frames and wheels, except for the 4x4 anti rockers i put in cause i don't like antirocker wheels with no bearings they come stock with.
The frames work great with the souls and boot.
The stock rollerblade wheels that come in 72 mm and 84 aa, are not so great though.
they feel slow and sluggish, and I'm planning on buying some 60mm 4x4 lennens instead.
Even with the big rb wheels, the skates don't catch on front fahrvergnuegens and royales on ledges nor on savannah or nuegen cess slides, which is awesome.
topsides are also easy, and i found myself trying zero topsoyales after not doing them for years.
Souls slide fast enough and the groove is set up in the right place.
the boot itself: feels sturdy, but not really stiff. the cuffs flex just as i like them, but still offer more than enough support.
the plastic strap that goes over the boot is a necessity, otherwise the boot would have significant heel lift, even when tied tight, i beleive.
the liners are comfortable, even though i would prefer them to be a bit thicker, due to the boot being a bit on the bigger side.
The skates do feel a bit heavy, too.
I have been skating since winter 1996, and this is my first pair of rollerblade brand skates.
I give the skates 8/10 because of the weight and bad wheels. Also, they're really ugly. But looks come after performance for me. I think I will skate these for a long time.

To add to your review, heres my 2cents...
buy em small and put a thin liner in them and they become some of the best skates ever.
the double buckle / strap combo allows you to determine the flex
souls are solid and fast
groove too shallow? make it deeper (curb or dremel)
very lightweight
one of my fav pairs of skates, very functional.
however im switching to valo cuz id rather support them then trs who shits on their team.
Heres a park edit of me skating them though: http://www.vimeo.com/5553472
Thanks for the reviews. When my Xsjados die, I am seriously thinking about trying these skates out (or Nimhs). Hopefully the price will follow previous RBs, in that when the next year's model comes out the previous year's skates go down to $130 total. Then I'll really have a reason to try them.

another plus is that not only are the souls hella durable and last long, a whole new set of plates is only $15

Rollerblade has always had the best and most reasonable prices. That's why I respect them so much. Eventually I'll get to owning a pair of these Solos boots one day.

Did I read correctly that you walked into your local shopping mall and bought estillos?
I have talked shit about these since I first saw a picture. IMO, they're the result of lazy design that just puts a band-aid on an outdated model in an attempt to modernize it. Having said that, my interest in them was sparked when Al Dolega told me they're actually pretty stiff, which is something I really like in a pair of skates. That was the main reason I loved the TRS models and was pissed when I got my DT4's and noticed how floppy they were.

It's a good boot mold! Needs no modernizing there. The aggressive additions to it are the bad parts, but still not much worse than other brands.
what about sizing?
btw nice edit and good review!

to be safe id say they run about a half size small, that is if you are using the stock liners. let me explain my situation.
the stock liners arent half bad, the only thing i did not like was how the heel/cuff/ankle area is thick padding and the rest of the liner is standard trs liner, pretty thin. this would force my foot the the front and stub my toes, it wasnt too bad so i jsut dealt with it at first. then i put a thin liner in them (deshi dk4 liners) and they became my new favorite pair of blades.
i wear a 7. and with the stock liner like i said i stubbed my toes, but with a thin liner it was perfect. i know every shell size is its own size soemthing like: 6-.65, 7-7.5, 8-8.5, etc etc. so they are pretty true to size but a tad on the tighter/ narrower side forsure.
i wear a 7 in everything very comfortabley (cept valo gotta toe cut a 7 to make it work) and these fit a touch smaller in just about every aspect.
hope this helped and please lemme know if you have any other questions about them.

yep, there's this shop that sells only rollerblade brand rec skates and nordica skis in the winter, but they also carry the trs series.
there's also this extreme sports store that carries sunshine stuff. no real rollerblading shops, though.

I'm jealous, I want to try these but there's nothing worse than ordering skates and having them not fit..... Skatebarn here in seattle used to carry a ton of blades but they stopped. :x
Anyone know how these fit compared to remz. I wear a size 9 rem, would a 9 work in solo's?
