I used a box column drill. With drills for woodwork. They have center spikes. First with a forstner drill to recess the axles, then with a regular drill using the little center hole the forstner provided for alignment.

I'd make you some for $ 30 if you pay for shipping... ;)

Seriously, I have some plastic left to make you some. The same the Kizer Diamond frames were made of. Would be diffiuclt though because I have neither Fifty/50s nor GC 2nds lying around to use as draft.

I skate ledges and destroy a Featherlite in three sessions... ;)

Tried to skate F1s, because the blocks are cheaper to replace, but they will wear as fast and the h-block isn't as beefy, which means I wear holes in the block super easy. And as soon as a frame has a hole in the h-block area it becomes super dangerous, because they start to stick on rough material.

I wear through all Ground Control frames in about a week. All other frame brands last me forever so I only change them when I want something fresh rather than needing to My wheels last longer than Ground Control frames but the axels always bend aswel so my wheels end up stuck in the frames just to make me love them even more.

i have always wanted to push the wheels out on my 5050s, but i have been too lazy to figure out exact hole placement. is there a system that would help with this?

Monday
18.08.2010, 15:22
Not really. Eyeball it at first with some antirockers etc... I put the axles as low as possible and as close to the first and last wheels as the UFS screw let me.

I hope they'll perform better than they look...

Definitely need a quick session on a gritty curb to make them skateable, but I didn't want to shave too much off of them whilst making them. I only hope the plastic is okay for grinding. I bought the white diamond stuff because I knew it would work, but opted for the black on these blades, because there isn't anything white on them to match weit blockz.

I'll skate them on concrete poolcoping on Saturday for the first time. I'll keep you posted... ;)

They look amazing. The only thing I can see that might be a problem is that the new axel holes are very close to the bottom of the frame and catching a wheel badly could cause them to break through.

Well I just meant for the Valo frames. I would buy some.
I use those drill bits everyday for making screw holes in soul plates and such.
But I think they look so fucking awesome so if they skate better than they look they will just be the best frames ever!
You've got me thinking now tho. I might have to just try this on some 5050s...

Are the inside wheels just worn-down wheels, or did you buy them at that size? What are the sizes of wheels you're using?

Jup, grinded them down. They are around 45 - 47 mm. I can't measure them properly, because they are in the frames now... :D

Can I see a picture of a block outside of the frame?
How is it attached?

Look at them blockz in the pic. The shape you see has a little extension of maybe 2 - 2,5 cm which reaches into the frame. Then there is some of it cut out on one side to allow for the middle wheel to creep beneath the part that's looking out ot the frames. I glued them in place and put a srew from the hole above the h-block that's in the frame into the block.

Skated them today on a curb. Took a few grinds to adjust to them. Then it felt OSM. The blocks' material is way faster then the Valo frames and a lot more sturdier. Even though I grinded savannahs (that's a alley oop unity), fulltorques and frontsides pretty much exclusively on the blockz the whole time the Valo frame itself shows a lot more wear from the occasional topsouls and topacids I did.

Felt like skating antirocker. Or even freestyle to an extend. Not the best flat-performance though. Better than anti, but not as good as 8 58mm wheels... ;)

I wasn't looking for the best flat experience while thinking and working on them though. I wanted to roll hassle-free over the shit runups we have here and also wanted a more solid feeling for landing gaps. Both of this was achieved. The grinding is even better than I expected.

Edit: Justin, PM me if you're interested in a pair of frames. I'll make you some, if you want. I need your ZIP code to calculate shipping.

monday, you plan on getting kaltik frames?

Monday
20.08.2010, 15:42
Nope. The main reason I put those ugly bitches together is my lack of interest in the current produt that's out there. From both design and functionality aspects. I don't want to spend mad moniez on frames with stupid graphic inlays, lame glow in the dark prints or grooves that doesn't understand the way I like to skate.

The Kaltiks look promising though. But they would probably fall apart after the fifth curbsession. Nothing against the frame itself, but the stuff we skate here is just too fucked up. Why pay 30 - 60 € for a frame when there is something available for less than 10 € which can be customized with a little bit of work?

I hope it will be 'a little bit of work' as soon as I've perfected the process of making the blocks and drilling the holes. Because for the first time since five years ago it took stupidly long. Almost to a point where I thought about throwing them away...

I can see evidence of an attempt at adding ankle/heel strap...did they not have the intended affect? I was thinking about throwing the ankle buckles from a set of RB Solos I've got onto my Gen GTs. On the RBs they allowed me to leave the laces a little loose but still be locked in.

No, you spend the extra 15$ and get nimh buckles for the top of your skate. They do not snap in and are made out of metal, than you take your original razor buckle and use that as the heel lift strap.

So what size NIMH soulplates should I get to do this mod? The matching ones or a size smaler? :D

I use the 6-7 souls on an 8-9 shell. Requires more work but it's worth it.

I'm going to try get my hands on my friends charcoal M12's so i can put my Nimh souls on them. It's just the back part of the shell you have to cut down isn't it?

Yep. You need to cut the little tab and wing off as well as grind down quite a bit of the heel. I use a belt sander from my work and it takes about 15-20 minutes to do. If you do it right, the boot squeezes into the heel of the soul ever so slightly. I'll try to get some photos of just the heel area of the shell when I get home from work.

I also stick an old insole between the soul and boot to make it sound like a solid skate. This makes quite a reach for the frame bolts so make sure you get the really long ones for the rear. Xsjado frame bolt receivers help because they extend more than standard ones.

Eh, what else... oh, you have to make sure the boot is perfectly aligned in the soulframe as you tighten the bolts otherwise you get a wildly pronating or supinating skate. It's easier than it sounds.

$2 for barely used (I mean 'barely' as in scratches on the h-block) elements with a couple missing axles.
And they came with 2 shitty wheels that contained some awesome bearings.
All in all, a good deal.

The replacement axles actually cost me more than the elements did.

I wish they would re-release the DL2's but with thinner instep padding.
Best-looking Xsjados ever.

This is what I was talking about. Do you not like me or something?
Whenever your fellow Frenchmen come by I ask them to tell you a little asian kid from ny says hi.
This happened like 7 times. Did any of those come back to you?

My fellow French people don't speak english too well, they mentionned you but not your name !

I'll be in New York in a few weeks, spending at least a few days with Ludo, so I'll see you then !

Still, I don't understand how that relates to how fast your bearings are spinning ah ah !!!

They are slimmer with denser padding and internal laces, it makes the entire skate more controllable, supportive and secure to your foot.

I have the best of both worlds right now, the feel of Remedyz with the grind setup of Remz.

Nice skates, but I'm not really a fan of that liner.

You have to set the inner cuffbolt receptor back and the outer receptor in the front, so the cuff is centered. At least that's what I did. The fit is not 100% perfect, and that's why I wanted it centered, so it won't crack.

Yes the cuff is a bit taller but it is the same flex as the SL one, as far as I've tested while not on the skate.

The liner though, is fat, and awesome for my skinny ankles/wide foot.

exactly why salomon was the best brand to withdraw from inline skating. they were the most common skate in the aggressive boom and there is an abundance of them. the exact same boot was produced for almost 10 years and there are plenty of parts in circulation. i think a perfect situation would be for salomon not to make more or sell the molds. but allow a company to "rent" the facility and produce small quantities of them. someone like powerslide, allow them to produce the skates (at least shells/cuffs/souls) and handle the distribution for a fee. stupid idea, but it seems a tad realistic.

I don't know. All i do know is that the cores on these wheels are huge and they are not eulogys.

The only time I saw a larger solid core was on the wheels that came on the '98 petty throne and they were, without a doubt, the worst wheels ever. Worse than liberty core. They came apart in two days.

I don't see a reason for this year's UC wheels to suck when last year's were supposedly the best ever.
Heck, even the 2008 line was supposed to be pretty good.

Unless our beloved Conference changes urethanes, which I doubt they'd do after everyone praised their wheels last year.
But then again...

sorry for not responding sooner everyone. my stats as requested by freddy. skates are a size 6. i tend to wear a 6.5 or 7 in shoes because most men's shoes start at 7.

and the liner... well i actually ordered it from RW. one of the only size 6 liners left, and then it jumped up to like 10 or 11. Just hunt around shops and see what they have. good luck.

and to lukenukem, i'll try and get a side shot later. they're in my trunk right now and i'm too lazy to go grab them for a photo op.

forgot i had uploaded this... it's not a side shot but its an "action" shot.
