James was a great person, but everyone already knows that. I can't stop crying.

    This is horrible.

He was truly one of the few people that I could count on to cheer me up no matter what, or listen to me ramble on at 3 am about how much I hated boys. I've strayed away from the rolling scene but James was one of the few people I've kept in contact with over the years, and I think it's only appropriate that I come out of the woodwork and pay tribute to him on Be-Mag since that is where we first started talking.

So....here's to you my friend, "OMG it's James Short!", I love you and I'm going to miss you. RIP.

    xoxo,

Kristin a.k.a. XTin, or as James would say -- "OMG it's XTin!"

It seems like just yesterday James was living on the futon at Octona, looking at porn on the shop computer, being awesome and writing personalized notes that accompanied our mail-orders. He was a wonderful person to know and had a positive impact on my life. He will be missed.

Wow. this is horrible. During the time he lived here in the Detroit area for about a year, around 03'ish He was welcomed instantly and was part of the crew. He was a quality person and i am saddend. I only wish i would have stayed in touch over the years and not take his friendship for granted. You never know when you will never see or talk to someone again.
RIP JAMES, you will be missed by all.

    This is horrible.

I only met James once, when he first came out to California in like 2004. He just randomly showed up at a skate spot in Solona Beach and just immediatley started smiling and talking to us, complete strangers, on how juiced he was to see other rollerbladers. He said he liked my frontsides, and he gave me a 9mm shirt which is still one of my favorite things to wear. I will always remember him as a cool skater and most of all as a friendly, kind person.

My heart goes out to his family and friends in this dark time. R.I.P. James.

Make sure to listen to lots of Led Zeppelin too. He'd appreciate that.

Seriously, he's just as much a part of the Detroit family as any of us. We miss you, James.

Today, I'll be wearing the Artysm jacket you gave me and I will try (and probably fail epically) some citric toe-rolls.

Also, FUCK THOSE WHO DRIVE UNDER THE INFLUENCE.

i'm so sorry to hear this, condolences to the people who were close to him.

It's really moving to see the impact that this guy had on the people around him, even the people with whom he only had casual contact. I have a lot to learn from his example. Rest in peace to what was clearly a good soul.

Just some pictures I took the last night we got to hang together.

This world is too cruel. James deserved a long healthy life, a beatiful wife and kids. It is too fucked up he had to die like that. I am going to miss that guy so much. He brought a lot of joy to all of us.

    RIP
