In the procession to the cemetery now... Hundreds of people are here to see James off, it's amazing. I can't think of anyone who deserves it more.
We'll miss you man.

I feel horrible that I couldn't make it for the viewing or funeral.![]()
RIP
I thought they were locking the board?
You know, I thought it looked like St. Ours, but James Shortface sent me the picture a long time ago so I assumed it was him.
I wish I could make it to his memorial session.
What's going on with the woman that hit him?
Keep me updated.
Agreed, I want to know what happened to her![]()
RIP again. Hope everyone's doing OK dealing with this.
Here's some stuff I caught on my phone from the procession:
^There must've been between 60 and 80 cars all lined up for James.
Releasing the balloons:

All in all, everything about today was beautiful. A tremendous amount of love was expressed by many for James, and rightly so. It all still seems so surreal though.
Hi everyone; This is James' mom.
We thank you all for the outpouring of love and support; it was a huge turn out for his calling hours and funeral; the biggest they've had there. We loved seeing you all, and hearing "James" stories, it's really been the bright spot in this tragedy. Thanks again to Ethan/youngblood for allowing me to post on his account! Looks like a large benefit planned for the 13th and another big session planned for the 19th at the new Phila Skate Park. See you there! Debra Short
Just read the obituary for the first time.
Can't help but smile at how sweet James Short's life really was.
So what's the deal with the session on the 19th? Who's organizing it? What time of the day will it be? Will the lights be on? I'm trying to organize as many Detroiters to come to it as possible.
Same here from Indianapolis.Originally Posted by al dolega

I love kids. They're short, highly emotional people who don't know anything. They rely on their creativity and imagination to get by in the world. A world, I might add, filled with giants. Amazing feat.
I just found out about this today, and boy has it been a rough one. James was one of those rare individuals that grace one's life and change things for the better.
He invited me to a skate session online when I was 16. I barely knew him, but it seemed like a great idea, especially for a youngster. After a great session, I surmised that James Short was one of the most intriguing, kindred, and genuinely pleasant people I'd ever met.
From then on, as we began to hang out more and more, I began emulating him, as I'm sure many others have. Sometimes I would feel intimidated by his incredible grace and swiftness on his skates. He'd say, "Screw that. You shred just as hard. Now skate that ledge!" It was the kind of push a timid person like myself needed. I grew as a rollerblader as well as an inquisitive young mind. His personality and actions reminded me greatly of someone who would certainly entertained the ideologies shared by Buddhists or Taoists--a state of mind in which one can exists solely with itself, while also maintaining a tender connection to the environment around them. James was the type of person to accept everything for its own values and merits.
Time passed, and we got a little older. There were times when he'd go somewhere, I'd go somewhere, and we'd lose contact. Then, almost miraculously, we'd be drawn back together. James was the kind of person who would call, text, or message you to hang out and you just could not say "No." It wasn't the kind of suspicious behavior that one who guilt-trips someone elicits. No, James was just someone you WANTED to be around. His charming smile, gentle laugh, and warm temperament just intoxicated you.
As my general style and aesthetic taste began to assume a quality similar to his, I realized that this guy had become one of those key figures that most have in their life; one that helps you develop and find yourself by acting as a bounce-board of sorts. I could always reflect or lament and know that he'd be willing to listen and contemplate with me.
There is so much I could say right now. So much I WANT to say. I have so many memories.
Debra, Rod, I had only met the two of you a couple of times in all of the years. My name's Jon Coy, aka Lawsuit Boy as James frequently referred to me as (that's a long, hard story that I shared with James very openly). I don't know if you remember me. I wish to offer my condolences for your loss. But, as you've already pointed out, James wouldn't want me to feel as awful as I do right now. Instead, he would tell me to perk up, listen to some good tunes, and enjoy taking in each breath. I hope that the following months and years go as smoothly and painlessly as possible. I loved your son so much, not only as an amazing friend, but as a complete and utter inspiration. I thank you both for giving the world the opportunity to enjoy the company of such a wonderful person.
I will certainly be stopping by the skate session in New Philly on the 19th.

Rest in peace. My prayers are with his family and friends.
