    Default Street Artist wheels review

    So, I've been riding the new 58mm Street Artist wheels for the last 3 weeks now, and all I can say is they have seriously impressed me. I skate 3 or 4 times a week, mainly alot of park skating but some street too, so they've taken a good beasting in the last few weeks.

    My first impression when I got them was that they look incredibly refined for a first wheel from a company; they were poured perfectly, absolutely no defects, and they looked fresh as hell too. Straight away they were super fast, but they had shit loads of grip too. With wheels I've had in the past they can feel kinda rough when you skate them on a really smooth surface, but these felt really really smooth.

    Just some pics to show how they're holding up so far;

    So yeah, very little wear considering how much cruising round parks I've been doing, on both wood and concrete. I really like these wheels, and if pushed, I'd definitely buy them again without hesitation, I think AJ had come out with a wheel thats a serious contender to Euology.

    It's all a matter of opinion. Wheels will have a different effect on everyone depending on your size weight and where you are skating and shit like that...

    STAR does seem to have their shit together though, wheels wise.

    the problem i had with street artist was that they wear down REALLY fast once you get that initial bit of wear on them.

    like they will stay perfect for a week or so but after that its all down hill. once they wear a little, they start to wear faster than a lot of other wheels.

    I feel the same about 4x4s. I gave them about 4 chances through out the years and the same thing constantly happens. On gaps the cores warp and don't hold the bearings properly.

    Eulogies have lasted the best structurly, but I hate how hard they are. On gaps it feels like your feet are getting hit with baseball bats.

    wuckin it.

    if eulogies were softer, they'd be perfect

    I don't do gaps, so the hardness of Eulogy wheels doesn't bother me for that reason, but the lack of grip on smooth surfaces (like at indoor wood parks) does. I think Eulogy wheels are pretty much the best quality wheels you can buy, but unfortunately they don't currently make a wheel that suits my needs.

    Rotate your wheels when they start to wear down dudes. Most wheels start to wear relatively fast once you get towards the inner urethane, and most core technology is shit right now. If you cores don't stretch, then they will end up coming off the hub. I can't wait until we can get the perfect balance between soft wheels that don't wear fast, cores that don't stretch, and cores that don't shed the wheel like a cheap date.

    Thanks for the review, and like with anything made in bulk there are 10% of the batch that will out perform everything, 10% of the batch will underperform, and about 80% will be a representative sample.

    Word.

    Seriously, it pisses me off when people complain about "coning" in wheels. That's more a sign of lack of maintenance and negligence by the user than poor wheel quality. Soft, grippy wheels are obviously going to wear faster so it's the skater's responsibility to check for wear and rotate wheels accordingly. Another pet peeve of mine are people who complain about flat spots. Flatspots don't occur spontaneously, you have to drag your wheel for it to happen. I don't understand how people can seriously hold the wheel company responsible for that.
