Default Amtrak from CA to NYC

What's up fellow rollerbladers, I'm planning on taking a trip on Amtrak from California to New York early next month. I've never traveled by Amtrak before and I was hoping that some of you on here have so that I can get some sort of insight on what to expect. Any info is highly appreciated.

How much is this trip costing you? are you free to bail off and get on a train whatever or are you on a specific schedule?

Haha, man does time fly! Here is an update...he is 5 shoe sizes away from his 1st pair of skates! He turned 2 in November and he is already a stunt man with sneakers on jumping off of things and climbing onto everything.

It will cost me $205, that's not bad at all. I think the train only makes 1 stop and that's in Chicago. I always wanted to take a train across the country...I guess I've been watching too much of "The Buried Life" haha. But I'm definitely going to chronicle everything on my blog ShutupandSKATE.

It only makes one stop but passenger trains have to stay out of the way of freight trains, so you can get deferred to other tracks to wait for them to pass you. Sometimes you can sit there for an hour. Other than that it's a fun way to travel. I used to take the train from Durand to Kalamazoo all the time. My cousin (from Kalamazoo) took the train to Seattle as part of her honeymoon.

Those are probably the usual delays that I've been hearing about. Well, it definitely adds to the adventure aspect.

my grandma took a train from kansas to the grand canyon. her train ended up running someone over that was crossing the tracks.. while in the process of being stopped and cleaning up the blood. someone on her train had a heart attack....

4+ days on a train, just make sure you get both window & aisle seats to yourself in a carriage with NO screamin' kids. And take the route through Sacramento - Nevada - Utah - Colorado 'cos the Arizona - Texas - Missouri route is boring & always huge delays.

No worries, I'm pretty sure that I will have a few crazy stories on my trip. My life is already like a sitcom so I'll be waiting for the crazyness to start as soon as I settle into my seat. And speaking of my seat I'll be taking over the aisle and window haha. Hopefully, my Skull Candy earphones will block out screaming kids.

hey Lord Brian i took the Amtrack from Portland,Oregon to NYC and it was a cool experience. every other stop you get to step outside and walk around for abit. the train was good, also at times boring since al you do is look out the window or talk to your neighbor.

your going to have a fun trip and also if your going by Montana good luck counting the cows more than you see people.

I took the train from NYC to Savannah alot, and I've learned that doing it without a laptop full of movies, or tv shows fucking sucks. The hotdogs they serve are delicious tho.

Dude Am-trak is straight as fuck. I took it once from Orlando FL, to South Carlolina there and back. They don't check you bags so you could have drugs, guns , beer whatever. I took some beers on with me then just went to the bathroom and got wasted, then went to the concession cart where they have beer, liquor and food and just passed out there. Also whenever it made stops I would just pop out for a mintue smoke a blunt then hop back on. For the most part you just sit in a fucking sit and save way more money then traveling in a car. When I get off probation which should be in about seven months I am gonna hit up the Am-trak across the US. Shit is legit have fun.

Word I am down. The route I plan on taking from Florida kinda goes up the east coast line then around DC starts to head out west and stays up midwest then kinda goes down west coast line then back trhough AZ, TX etc..... I am just gonna plan my trip with skating events, concerts, food events, places to stay etc.......I can think of a couple places I can stay for sure but when times comes I'll hit up be-mag for some couches to crash and good times.
