So I have been enjoying birds since noticing some hummingbirds and others on a hike about a year and a half ago. I've been trying to get photos of as many species as I can and just appreciating seeing a new species when I see one on a hike even if I don't get a picture or have a camera with me. Photographing hummingbirds is hard because they're shy, fly fast as fuck, and don't tend to stay in one place for very long. To get a good picture the shutter speed needs to be at 1/600 at the slowest, so it's hard to get the timing right and get them in a location where they're in enough light to allow for fast shutter speeds, and usually by the time I have the camera ready and in focus they're gone.

So on to the bird. There are three hummingbird species on Saba, and I've been trying to see/record the rare one, the Purple Throated Carib. I went looking for one yesterday and nearly shit myself when there were two lurking around on this shady trail I was on just about the minute I got there. I got a few pics, but it was really shady, and the pictures were poor at best. Then I walked over to a sunny area hoping one might come over, and both did. One pretty much chilled for five minutes sitting on different branches sometimes 5 feet away from me just looking at my girlfriend and I seeming to expect to be admired and photographed. Pretty weird but awesome for a birdfag such as myself.

Here's a screenshot of the brightest, most in focus one I could get where the bird's posture allowed it's throat coloration to be seen.

I've been hoping to get this picture for about a year.

From last Saturday. I'll probably post more as I edit them.

I love kids. They're short, highly emotional people who don't know anything. They rely on their creativity and imagination to get by in the world. A world, I might add, filled with giants. Amazing feat.

Nice, what camera do you have? I know that small birds are really tricky to shoot without a tripod and a long lens.

It takes 129 film. From a brief google search I found that some people try to mod 127 film to fit, so if you really want to use this camera there are ways, but it will take some research and work.

Seems like a lot of trouble for an $8 camera

    Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 test shots:

Never did a panning shot before, thought I'd give it a go.

Not too sure that I like what it does to the sky in certain lighting conditions. Still need to play with it more, but I really love this thing

Try to show the person's face and don't cut out run-ups and landings.
