And they should for the amount of money they pay.

To claim that a wedding photographer must only shoot in a photo journalistic style is horseshit. There is a time dor that, but not always. Everyone has their own style, opinions and expectations. When we meet with clients, all of this is discussed, everything laid out on the table. The client walks away knowing that we have a lot of experience with what goes on during a wedding, and that we can be trusted to make sure the day goes smoothly. All we ask for is some cooperation during a few key moments of the day.

And I was exaggerating about kissing for 5 seconds.

This got blown out of proportion because you went out of your way to be a dick. If you don't have any photos to submitt, then why don't you just stick to looking at the pretty pictures and keep your fucking mouth shut?
Because I like having discussions and I can do whatever the fuck I want, This is entire thing on my part was about you trying to dictate how people should Kiss at their own weddings, while they pay you. And I didn't go out of my way to be a dick, dry sarcasm just happens to be my chosen language. My main point was that some of those key moments where you are asking for cooperation are THIER moments where you shouldn't be asking for anything, because they should be thinking about the person they are fucking marrying, not you. There are times when yes you have warrant to dictate a little action and get some shots, but during the ceremony and especially at what you already called the culmination of the event, the couple themselves should definitely have no obligations. This is their one day. You said yourself that there are times when you need to stick to a photojournalistic style and times when you don't. That is clearly one of those time. Especially for the amount of money you charge.

and yes, Idiot, I understand people come to you because you take nice pictures and they have high expectations of their own, but you are so fucking delusional and pretentious that you think that means you have to direct all the action at an event that you are but a fractional part of. As an amazing chef picked to cater an event like that because people like food you have made and have high expectations of food you are gonna make for them, does that mean you get to say where people sit, how fast they should eat it and/or when they should eat it. No, the chef is also required to know whats going on at the event, adapt to changes, and produce amazing food when the people are ready to eat. I guest you just aren't that good or committed to servicing your clients, I'm sure you could be, I think you'd just rather make excuses and blame them when it dosen't go ideally. I don't know why I enjoy telling you these observations and opinions, but I do, so there ya go. and here is a picture of my friend if that make you feel better.

I hope you're writing a wall of text again, because I'm not going to read it and will be smiling at your wasted efforts. I don't care what you have to say, Captain Customer Service.
Yeah I know, basking in all that truth is probably starting to get painful for you, that's not really how you roll, I knew you couldn't last long.

That's cool. What countries do you tour?

I haven't been in a situation where I've been able to photograph musicians. I will on Father's Day, I have to cover a fundraiser for the Make-a-wish foundation and there are a few bands that will be playing. Nothing that I like listening to, but hopefully I can get a few decent shots for my work.

messed around with my homemade ring flash housing again a few weeks ago, and was reminded how much of a pain in the ass it is and how impractical it is to use.

This was the Bon Iver performance at the Sasquatch Music Festival. I was pretty much at center stage with an ultra wide angle lens at around an f3.5 or 4 I believe. I generally use spot metering when shooting low-light concerts to avoid the camera overexposing the image while trying to expose for the darker areas. But yeah, it's all about the ultrawide...

Shot an outdoor concert for work yesterday, never had the opportunity to photograph musicians before. It was a low key event, so I could basically shoot from any angle I wanted without getting in anyone's way, and the music wasn't really my cup of tea

Props, Eddie....you seem to consistently be shooting all the time. I feel like a "camera owner" currently as I only pull out the gear every couple weeks for a shoot of sorts.

Adam K - I feel like your photos, while exposed well, don't really have much 'in' them. Try shooting early and late in the day to get more interesting skies and keep thinking about whats in your photo - does it need some foreground interest? Wheres the horizon? Whats the point of this photo? I find that looking through photography journals/national geographic etc really helps me train my eye to what looks good and to try to focus my photo on having a point.

I'm no expert, so I won;t use one of my shots to make this point. This photo has almost zero stuff 'in' it, but it conveys something far beyond its content.

Have a look at Jaimes other stuff, its astounding.

Another technique, try some different viewpoints - your photos look a little like you are standing up, holding the camera at eye level. Try getting close and low. I shot this with a holga lens on my 20d.

    Hope that helps.

DB, thank you for your response. I agree the first picture in that series has "nothing" in it. I didn't really have a reason for posting it. As far as the others I think they all show where I was "Piney Z" lake, and the park I was in from different perspectives, keeping it open and showing that openness. As far as viewpoints go, you were correct. That day I road my bike 20 mi to get there and didn't want to leave without taking any pics. I took my camera out and snapped all of them quickly, still I could be more conscious of viewpoints. Out of them all the fourth one and the last one I truly care for, and I am proud of ,and are atheistically pleasing to me. I liked your feedback but I would like some feedback on some of my other pics. I liked those photos you posted, I really like "Boogies" work www.artcoup.com , and his work definitely resonates with me, by showing the world in a true but dark and beautiful way. I am going to Amsterdam next weekend and I plan on taking as many pics as possible, I will keep your advice in mind, thanks.

I like this one. Something about colors and proportions, but that's as far as my camera critique art talk skills go...

    I like this thread.

I recently sent a little of my work to ' the photo copy club' an exhibition split between brighton and london.

    http://thephotocopyclub.com/

Anyone can submit, there is some awesome stuff on there. It really inspired me, I like the physical nature of it all.

I posted this a few weeks back after a trip to NewYork, funnily enough its appears to of been selected for display.

Great confidence booster as Im very new to this lark. Its not even been a year since a picked up a camera.
    I have fallen in love.
