Frage Upgrading OS's on Mac (need help)

I'm finding that things are becoming less compatible with the old version I'm using on my macbook pro (10.4). I'm trying to get Leopard or Snow Leopard, but I have no idea whats up with installing that or what steps I should take. I realize this is a very noob question, but any details on the process (or if its even possible) would be good.

And am I going to lose compatibility with all of the shit that comes with iLife and iWork (although i rarely use the stuff). If I'm going to lose my bootleg version of Microsoft Office in the process, I'll have to plan on doing it over spring break.

Put disc in, select archive and install.

    Boom.

EDIT: Oh and if your MBP isn't an Intel version, you can't use Snow Leopard.

its an intel version, its just from one of the first production months of when they released the model. It's looking like it won't be so simple because I'm running Tiger, and I can't simply upgrade since i'd be skipping Leopard.

    Fuck this nerd shit.

I think it should work simply if you put the disk in. If it's Intel that is. If you want a clean install then it's another story, but if you want to keep everything, it's simple.

Can none of you read? He said he has a MBP, which never came w/ anything other than the Intel processors, so SL will work fine.

In other news, you can upgrade from Tiger to SL with whatever disc you want, just like everyone else did. http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...iger_macs.html

You can, but you're not allowed to.

Back your shit up, put DVD in, archive and install, profit.

Oh wow, thank you. Everything on apple's website indicated that I would need the box set (170 bucks), but you just saved me 140 dollars. I'm wondering if its worth it to just get the more expensive one to have the computer completely upgraded, since I need to get a bunch of things fixed on the computer anyways before my warranty is up, which would make some poor apple store employee deal with any headaches that would come from doing the full installation. They mentioned something about not having the box set version violating a licensing agreement and most likely wouldn't do the cheap upgrade for me since the company is a bunch of bloodsuckers.
