Um...so yeah story time. I'll give the short version...basically I ended up picking up my mechanic to go look at the bike and 5 hours later after him and the dude selling it fell in love with each other we got back to his shop at 1:30am and get the bike in. I'm exausted and starving and want to go home but he insists we take a quick ride. I think we're going to go down the street and come back since he has a suspended bike license, he was sleep deprived, and on some sort of medication that makes him occasionally slur his words but of course that's not what happened. I don't know wtf I was thinking getting on but I did and I'm ok. Anyways, even though I told him to chill he fucking gunned it on a crazy hilly back road and then as we were flying up on some cars stopped at the light ahead of us he waited too long to break and the tires squeeled, we swerved a bit and the bike went down. Luckily neither of us got hurt(and we had helmets on)...I basically stepped off of the bike as it was falling down and walked away and he was laying on the ground with the bike on top of him. So yeah, just a little scuff came out of it and a cracked turn signal light but he already fixed that and is hooking me up with a ton of free work and is going to get a new paint job on it for free since his bike is the same color. Yep.

The MSF course is probably the second best investment you can make, a quality helmet is number one. Don't be a cheap ass and buy some shitty helmet (dear god do NOT buy used), spend a little money and get something good. I know from personal experience that a quality helmet will save your life in the event of an accident.

I would seriously punch that dude right in the fucking face. You were stupid for getting on with him. He was in no shape to go out riding. I hate to sound like the old hardass, but that was such a squid move.

On the other hand, enjoy your bike man. They're a fuckload of fun. What'd you end up getting?

yeah I know I know...it was pretty retarded but I felt like I had to go out since it was my first bike and the first day I got it. Anyways, never again will I compromise in any situation like that. I ended up getting the one I posted a few days ago. It's a white 78 kz 650 in really good shape with all stock parts. Ended up paying $1450...got him down from $1650 which may be a little overpriced but I love the look and feel of the bike and it seemed to be the right one. Can't wait to start riding man!

I'm definately planning on taking the coursee and getting a nice helmet...any reason why I shouldn't buy used as long as it fits well? Thanks for the advice dude.

Here is my bike. I got it last year. I was looking at a couple Honda cruisers and sportser's. I decided on this one because I had never rode a motorcycle before. It was $1600 brand new from the dealer and I've learned a whole lot about riding on it. I'll have a different bike by next summer but I am really glad I got a cheap bike to learn on because I laid it over like 3 times in the first month. 2 of those times were because of gravel.

You shouldn't buy used because you never know what the previous owner did with the helmet. Motorcycle helmets are made to take a single impact and something as simple as dropping it on the ground can compromise the foam on the inside. Do yourself a favor and buy a good helmet. Just because it cost between $500-700 doesn't mean it is a rip off. Trust me on this one, a high quality helmet is well worth the money. I literally wouldn't be typing this right now if it weren't for me spending the extra money to buy a Shoei helmet 3 years ago, that thing saved my life for real.

If you need any help with picking the right helmet, or any gear, PM me and I'll let you know my experiences with the various choices that are available. I worked at Cycle Gear for a while and know a good amount about a lot of different helmets and can help guide you towards the best option for you. Being safe should be your number one priority when riding.

Old Kansas Blader, Todd B saves rollerblading?

I think thats the same guy from those kfc vids right? Whatever his bg may be, he makes sick bikes and films them really nicely.
