i just moved here last july. the weather really isn't that horrible. it's easy to find things to do and meet people seeing as there are a ton of colleges in the area, public transportation isn't half bad, you can bike everywhere, decent skateparks in the area, and a lot of street around the city. it's a fun place to live.
the bad? the T stops running at basically midnight (i really don't understand why), north east mix of people are generally not the nicest, driving is confusing as hell, apartments and homes are all old yet still expensive, taxes suck, and the health care law is dumb.

I've lived here my whole life. We still have a pretty good scene, people skate on the reg. Theres not as many people that still skate all the time like say 10 years ago but people still blade. We dont have any skate shops in the area, that kinda blows.
ive lived here my whole life, been skating for about 15 yrs. the winters suck obviously, but theres some decent indoor parks within an hour or less drive of the city. theres spots everywhere in the city and all the towns surrounding. lots of little cement parks in the south shore (where im from) that can be fun if you have a good group. everyone i run into who skates is usually pretty pumped to bump into other rollers, so its a good scene. id say the absolute worst is NO SHOPS at all. its fucking frustrating having to order shit all the time.
Mass Transport is quick, easy, and goes pretty much anywhere you want. Bike lanes on a good amount of streets if your into that. A million street spots everywhere, and always people down to skate. food is amazing (even the cheap stuff). The city itself is awesome, you could spend a year just looking for cool places to go and sights seeing. Hundreds of bars and pubs around every corner (even though im not old enough to drink yet). A ton of schools (if your going for college). Tons and tons of really cool shops and places to get cool shit. you don't need a car at all to get anywhere(aside from mout of town). minimal snow and rain. Rye Airfield is only an hour and a half away.
rent is really really expensive. the job front isn't exactly booming. terrible for driving, really confusing with rotaries and its hard to see street names, not to mention people drive like assholes. it gets really cold in the winter, and its constantly really windy all year round. the closest indoor skate park is 30-40 minutes away.
Windy year round? Negative.
Bostons got hot bitches. Move to Boston, you won't be disappointed.
good: Food, you can find almost any kind you are looking for. Tons of shit to skate. Old buildings..... IS A GOOD THING, you can find places to live with free heat and hot water. Trees are a $100 fine. the Red Sox. You can walk home from most parts of the city if you have to. Lots of art type things going on. Skating spot to spot is fun as hell. Medical care is very good. June and July have beautiful weather and most of the college kids go home. Mad ways to get on the train for free.
Bad: rent. College kids. Yuppie ex-college kids who forgot to leave. People claiming that are from boston because they went to school there. Unions make it very hard to find well paying blue collar work without knowing someone. Gyms are pricy. Hotels are expensive so if anyone visits you they want to stay in your apartment. Some landlords are total shit bags. Brookline cops. No skateshop. Taxes.

If you are thinking about coming to school here, its a good idea. If you can handle the cold it will definitely be worth it. During the school year Boston is flooded with more hot girls than anywhere I have ever been. There are so many colleges and opportunities to meet people and network. Even if you cant get into a school such as MIT or Harvard, you can still go to conventions and lectures and meet the same people that those students are. Boston is full of opportunity to get your life going if thats what you are trying to do, but it is also easy to get caught up in the large amount of partying that goes on due to the overwhelming amount of students.
Blading here is sick. I myself am a little worn out of the spots in the city, as anyone would be who has bladed them as long as I have, but I know that a newcomer would thoroughly enjoy them. Food is most def some of the best, and also as far as safety goes I have never had any problems. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
