Default Question about RB SOLO + Switch Frames

    Hello all,

Just wondering, with the 72mm wheels, is that with the rockers rockered up or down as stock?

If it was down I'd put my 62mm Arlo Lone stars on rockered up possibly to get a lower ride.

    AL? haha

You can ride 72's rockered up (towards the boot) or down (towards the ground), but down is just pointless, the only reason I can see you would do it is that you're purposely trying to have a super-tall frame setup, or you can't/won't add wheelwells to the boots you're putting them on (when rockered up the 72's stick out of the top of the frame by 2mm).

So putting the Lone Stars in would give you a lower ride, yes, but only in the same way that putting a 49mm wheel in a normal frame would. A much better option would be to wheelwell your boot and ride the 62's in a normal frame. The only downside of this is that the wheel is going to hang out of the frame more, which might complicate grinding a bit. But I think that's a way better compromise than having a too-tall frame with more "covered" wheels.

Why are you riding Lone Stars anyways? Those should be on display on a shelf, not getting used up skating!

    Cheers for the advice Al,

I used to work at Shiners the UK Distributor for Roces/Valo etc, they have PALLETS of Impala's that I can get hold of for about £30 a pair so their are plenty of lone stars at my disposal!

Wow, Impala 62's? That's awesome. You should rob the wheels, de-rivet the frames, mount some Valo souls and sell them!

Sorry notanotherhonda that would be a complete mission to do!

Al, you'd still be left with a high top yellow cuff, DREAMY haha!

Oh and I need your approval, tell me RB's aren't a bad choice!?

Furthermore, to rub it in, I'm skating on 60mm Jake Elliot Medium's at the moment, why? Because I have a further 2 sets BOXED at home.

Whether or not the Solos are a bad choice all depends on you. They'll be great for some and terrible for others, just like any skate. They're a lot better than I thought they'd be. From the soulplate up the skate is pretty great IMO... I just think the soulplates need work and I've said numerous times that the Switch frame is taller than it should be.

I'm serious about the Impala thing. Get a bench riveter and some simple tools and you could pump each pair out in an hour or two... you could sell them boot-only for what, 100 pounds? Sounds like a pretty good racket to me.

Sounds like effort to me, but well, I salute anyone that would give it a go!

I was hoping to speak to you actually Mike, what did you skate before? I'm probably gonna have mine delivered wednesday anyway so they're coming but I'm just super curious about them! Did you get them for free, is this some marketing ploy haha!

Do either of you know whether these people are still operational? http://www.edswheels.com/ I really want some Fatboys on these skates! BAD

LOL I wish I was on the rb hook up. they are awesome skates. I have had basically any skate you can name except maybe carbons. I use to be really into salomons from 2004 -2007, but when they started getting scarce in the u.s. I figured I would try some new stuff. I had a pair of oli shorts from about december 07 til may 08, then I got remz os1's and skated those from may 08 til february 09 when the solo's became available. I was excited that rollerblade was finally coming out with a new skate as I have always enjoyed there high production quality on there other skates. when I got them I had a little trouble getting them to fit. they felt good but they kept hurting my toes. I switched the liners with my old oli m12 liners and they have been great ever since.

My current setup is oli m12 liners, trs switch frames rolling flat on 60mm Face wheels and I removed the negatives and buckles to save on weight. I didnt really need the buckles because the boot has lace eyelets going up very high so you can properly secure your foot that way. I took the 72's off because they felt a little sluggish when initially taking off. after you get rolling of course they were super fast, but the sluggish take off would wear me out a little. most people probably wont notice this.

the soulplates will slide very well on things with little or no wax(like skateparks infested with boarders). when doing royales and such, they do not have the feel of salomon widebodies. you can get as low as you need to.

SORRY FOR THE WALL OF TEXT lol

I ordered a few pairs of those 67mm wheels for my estillos, but they never came. Although I did email the guy prior to see if they were still there and he did respond. I have just been too lazy/busy as of late to follow up to get my wheels or sue the pantz off this guy.

Solos are the shit btw, im skating them with Formula1 frames tho. The first two session i hated them because they were sitff and hurt my feet, i had the buyers remorse! But then once they broke in a little, they became the best skates ever and theyre still breaking in and getting better every session. They make rollerblading more fun for me.

Thanks for the walls of text guys, it's appreciated! I'm convinced I'm gonna have to get them, but it might take some time as I have no money, and my blagging doesn't seem to be working too well for me!

I crave Solo Estilo's with Fat Boys, I really think they're gonna be good. I used to be into Salomons big time too, I pretty much got at least one from every line they made, starting with ST8's, then being baffled just by the better plastics on the ST90's then onto STi Teams and so on and so on... and yes, it's all about the production quality and I honestly believe Rollerblade are the only company able to really get that across in a product. Fuck all the politics, and skater owned shit, RB has been in it since the beginning and whether people like it or not, actually helped spawn what we all enjoy nowadays.

    RANT!

    Cheers guys!

true statement........ every company has fucked skaters over and dropped there whole team and such. Im just glad big companies are willing to still fuck around with aggressive shit. they bring that mainstream cash in to help our market a little bit. plus over the years they have given og skaters good jobs designing product. azikwee anderson(sp?) designed the trs access and tom hyser of course designed the solo series.

I skated the switch frames on my Razor Cults and they were definitely too tall. If they decreased the height by a cm and the length by a cm I would say "nice job!".

I skate switch frames on my nimh v1's and i also skated them on some trs downtowns. Both with the 72mm rockered up with wheelwells. I have no problem with them being tall. topsides feel normal and royale tricks are actually easier. this is after skating most other brands on the market. i haven't tries the solos but i can recommend the switch frames.

Yes Zach, I've gone the whole hog and decided to get them, have them on my feet right now haha! How you doin anyways? Hope lifes treating you well!

I'm gonna try get someone to film an overview (Reviews are shit) of the skate so people can actually see what this skate has to offer as I think people have just dismissed them as being shit. It will be good to have something out there that is less about selling and more about informing

Any aspects you guys think I should incorporate into the review?

I have the skates but they don't fit me. I wish I could skate them though, they look as good or better than most other skates! We are talking about the solo's right? I still think the frame is hella-wack though.

    Yeh the Solo's Alex.

Just skated mine for the first time today at my local park and had all my regular tricks down. Skated a curb for a couple of decent royalles before going to the park and now I have a sweet groove. The one thing I notice with these skates tho, the wheels or whatever, it's like skating Fiziks or something, and airing is a complete dream! They just feel like a really good quality skate, the liners are sweet and that mid buckle thing REALLY works.
