Default God damn the price of wood!

So i decided to build a 12ft wide 5ft high quarter as the first thing in my new place. I go to the Home Depot to get an estimate of how much this will cost. Last time i built anything, plywood was 6-8 bucks depending on the type/thickness. Shit is so fucking expensive now, 18-36 bucks depending on quality and thickness. WTF? All in all it will run me about 250 bucks! I built a 6ft high 16ft wide quarter with a friend back in the 90's and i remember his dad paying just over 100 bucks for all the supplies. Lifes a bitch.

everything costs more than it did in the 90s or if it costs the same or less its not as good as it was

I've been looking into building a mini and its probably going to cost in the neighborhood of $1000, sucks

Yeah, however only a couple years ago, shit a year ago ply was still in the 8-10 dollar range. My buddy was with me and he is a carpenter. He told me shits tripled in the past couple years. I just want to know why.

In response to those who recommend stealing it from construction sites, i hardly want to catch a charge over a quarter pipe. I dont steal period. Im damn near 30 years old and can buy the shit thanks. I will however ask permission to dumpster dive on construction sites. They throw away near full sheets of ply and 2x all the time. Im not knocking those who do or would do this, i did it to build shit as a kid all the time. Its just that now i dont have mommy to come pick me up from jail.

    Blinzeln

Plywood prices has gone through the roof.
Here12mm form ply (has a black coating of laminate so you can use it for the sides and deckand not have to paint) is about $50 for a 1200x2400 piece.
C/D grade normal ply is about 38 bucks for the same size.
two coats of 7mm ply for the trannie ends up costing a truckload.
Id try a wholesaler or some recycled timber yards for the timber and for the ply..

When my old man was alive he'd steal sheets from sites he worked at.

It's been pricey for a while. I built two 3' tall x 4' wide quarters for my place and with metal and coping they were about $150 each. You just gotta build smart to be as efficient as possible with wood. Studs are still pretty cheap so go heavy on them to make up for using less/thinner plywood.

found some choice plywood pieces out on garbage night the other day, i live in a classy suburban neighborhood so people are remodeling allllll the time, which means tons of dumpsters full of choice house guts

oh yeah, for sure. I helped build several parks through the years and have pretty much figured out the cheapest way to build ramps while still having them be durable. $250 for a 12ft wide 5ft high quarter would be about $400 if built the way any plans online or purchased will show you.
