Thread: sorry skate manufacturers... (salo clear cuff goodness)

Default sorry skate manufacturers... (salo clear cuff goodness)

but i can't stop sniping salomons off ebay for mad cheap. seriously this is my second pair i got in the past few months and i couldn't have gotten better deals, $30 shipped for st ones (never grinded, like new wheels) and $55 shipped for rob thompsons (def skated park a bunch, no real grooves, my reg soul foot souplate is not grinded). i'd really like to try some new skate companies to see how they fit, skate, etc but i already know how perfect salos are for my feet and it seems like there's a ton of them being sold lately. i also know xsjados fit my feet really well, but $300 for new skates is just too much for me right now. i kinda feel like the guy who is still collecting laser discs and vhs', it's easy to find awesome deals because it's outdated i guess.

Those are OSM. I think the 2006 ST Pro's had a clear shell too (not just cuffs).

I've been skating the same two pairs of Salomons for about the last 7-8 years.

I didn't like mine too much (had a pair of the 2nd generation in the late '90s), but I sure understand why somebody wouldn't buy the crap that is sold today.

they've always been an almost perfect fit for me so it's just easier to buy what i know works best than to gamble with new liner/boot combos that probably won't ever feel as good as salos go. and the upkeep on them is so perfect, if you replace soul plates and frames when they're too worn the boot could last you years and years if you're good about it. the skate industry is obviously pushing for kids to be buying skates every 4 months with their parent's money, usually just offering a different colorway or different parts setup on their new model skates, but in reality if you are passive enough on your boots they can last thru plenty of skating trends. anyone ever see that kell mckenzie article from life+ about keeping skates good?

    case in point.

i wannna try these widebodies for a bit just to see how they skate, then i'll prob take them off and cut some fresh uhmw jams to mount on. also these are the first skates i've had where the buckles are too long, i kinda like the length so i don't want to cut them, but might cut out a buckle slot ala USD cuffs.

I possess one ST-7 boot, one Thompson Boot, and one ST-90 2 boot which is the best, most stylish, and rarest Salomon boot. My Night souls have lasted me several years, I just recently had to flip them over (they are symmetrical) and I should get another year or 2 out of them. I've only gone through two pairs of frames but I'll probably need another pair sometime soon. I mostly just have to replace wheels and bearings every 6 months to a year. My ST-90 2 liners are the softboot kind so they are the most comfortable liners ever, I'm about to switch back to those because my Thompson liners are all fucked up from cutting them apart to fit an ankle monitor.

I know. I did that for like 3 years trying to find vinny 2s, but I don't want random ones anymore just because they are cheap.

I have a pair of vinny 2s, they're shaved to fit razors 1 piece souls though. I don't know what happened but those vinny 2s sucked, they felt way different than the 3 pairs of salos I owned before them.
