What kind of shit do you do to train? What kind of martial arts disciplines do you train in? How long do you think one would have to train to be seriously competitive?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Mike Budnik used to skate for Senate
10,000 hours of pratice and fighting and you will be one of the best. Do it!
this mma trend is a cancer on society, just look at all the douchebags walking around with tapout shirts on acting hard.
Charlie isn't a d-bag. He is a zened out warrior.
What happend to douche bags in Senate shirts acting hard?
My boss has a gym in clarksville tn. I have talked to him about training when i get a car and it is doable. It is a combo of muay thai, BJJ, wrestling, and a little good old fashioned boxing. The main focus is Muay Thai and BJJ though. The upper level guys in his gym essentially train full time according to my boss. They live very low income(he has 2 that live in the back of the gym)working part time and training hours a day 5-6 days a week. Basically 2-4 hours of mat time and an equal amount of time strength training and cardio. There was a dude Glen that lives in orlando that used to blade. He started training MMA and eventually had to give up skating in order to train competitively.
My recommendation

that may be true, but with ufc's national airtime it's gotten to all new levels of ridiculous. people are getting way too stoked to be sitting around watching other dudes fight each other, and then they feel all aggro and go start shit. plus all the product placement/endorsements are just lame as fuck, every fighter is repping a chemical energy drink and some bullshit clothing.
Really, im into watching MMA and so are alot of people i know. Ive never watched a fight on fight night to walk out into the street and see people all rowdy. The only thing i think is funny is a dude wearing a tapout shirt that is all out of shape and obviously hasnt been in a fight in his life. I dont see your point when you take it as far as calling it a cancer on society.
Shit, I know Glen. I crashed at his house one time.
yeah dude used to blade all the time back in the day. He started training and skated less and less. One day i think it was J holmes or someone called him cuz we were gonna be in orlando and he told him he gave up the skates to train full time. Dude was a beast the last time he skated so the training paid off i guess!
I was thinking about getting into a combination of Kung-Fu, BJJ, and American Boxing. I really just would like to do it as a way to get my self-defense skills up and also as an outlet for the hatred and anger that constantly brews inside of me. Competing would be fun to see where I stand, but I'm not really trying to be like a star or some shit. Though, I will say War Machine is a pretty dope guy. Dude gets paid to fight and he banged Riley Steele and Capri Cavalli and got paid for that too. That's the fucking life right there. I wish I could figure out some way to train in a martial art while on house-arrest. My bullshit PO won't even let me go to the gym. Which is wack because exercise is proven to be just as effective for curing depression as anti-depressants without the side-effects. So I can take a bunch of pills but I can't go work-out to keep me from going insane from being locked in a box for going on 3 years. Fucking bastards.
It's also fucked up that they took all the weights and work-out equipment out of all the jails and prisons in this country. Motherfuckers getting curred up, scared the beasts they are creating might turn on them. Funny thing is, if someone puts their mind to it, they can't be stopped. It's only a matter of time . . .
I started kickboxing at 16, did that until I was 20, started training exclusively with a private group in the instructor's basement until he opened his reality based school (knife, stick, dirty fighting, Filipino MA's, JKD). I started crosstraining in Russian Sambo 2x week for 2 years before the reality based school before leaving it to join all the the Sambo guys at an MMA club in town. I was training 5x a week in the evenings when my wife and I lived three miles away but we bought a house in another city. Now I mostly do jj since my time is limited and firearms and other similar training has sparked my interest.
Training is fun, competing is hard shit. You have to literally make it a lifestyle and that's before you even get out of your own gym. Many guys find not having insurance and trying to compete is a pretty hard thing to deal with.
As lame as it sounds Charlie, there are a shit load of instruction videos available to purchase (or in your case to dl). How much longer do you have with that bracelet on?
Shadow boxing is a plus, youtube it.

I'm a level 2 Army Combative Instructor. I've got a pretty good triangle choke.
