    Default Car Accident Question

I accidentally backed into a friend's car last week (completely forgot he was parked behind me), causing about $1500 worth of damage to his car. Obviously I'm paying for it, but I'd rather go through insurance if possible, seeing as a $500 deductible is a lot better than the full cost of repairs out of pocket. Only problem is, no police report was filed, so I'm not even sure if this is possible. Any insight into this Be-mag?

you don't always need a police report. just say it happened on private property.

yea, you don't need a police report since both of you have agreed to the same story, police report is usually for proving fault
    or
stop being friends with him so you don't have to pay

how fast did you back into the car? sounds like a decent amount of damage

if he's willing you should take the car to a couple shops for estimates

I was backing down a driveway, and by the time I hit him I guess I picked up a decent amount of speed. He's already taken it to two different shops and the amount in damage is AT LEAST $1500. And no, I'm not gonna stop being friends with him to get out of it haha. I am moving to Philly in a few days though so I kinda need to get this settled soon.

Home boy should not have been parked behind you, end of story. Sounds like it is time your "friend" to learn to take responsibility.

All sounds pretty reasonable, you should call your insurance company and talk to someone, thats why you have insurance. Your rates will probably increase and it may take awhile to get things sorted out but still better than forking over $1500 right now.

Yeah, they probably will go up, but considering I won't have that car anymore when I move, I kinda don't care. I'll give them a call when I get home.
