Anyway, let me address some potential arguments. Israel boarded them on international waters, the people reacted and hit the soldiers with various things, then the Israelis opened fire. Anyway, it's a disproportionate use of force, rubber bullets would have done just fine. There was no need to kill people after illegally boarding an aid vessel.
Then there is the "Israel has rights to defend their border argument", but that raises the question if Gaza or the Palestinian territories to be more precise are part of Israel, which obviously they are not when several nation states recognize Palestine as a state.
Anyway, there may be facts I'm missing but from what I've read, there is no proof of weapons on board, and I think I think it's just plain wrong to block humanitarian aide let alone kill people in order to do so. I don't sympathize with any radical Islamic cause but I think Israel has the means to set up a security screening at the docks, and let at least medicine and food in if you want to block building materials.

I hope they lift restrictions on aid to Palestine. But aside from that. Pointless loss of life, it is sad. I'm kinda confused as to why things like this seem like they keep happening in Israel. But I'm not local so I don't really give two shats.
They were warned in advance not to attempt to cross into Gaza. They did not comply with millitary orders and took up arms against a force stronger than them. This was a provoked attack, nothing else.
One of the people on board was a former holocaust survivor who likened the blockade to what the nazis did to ghettos in Poland.
Just like that douch who tried to board a jap whaling boat, hopping on board another ship in international waters is against the law.'If they did anything it should of been in Israeli waters. If they were worried about weapons they should have asked to check everything.

We'll find out how the Israeli military will react to the second fleet of boats being sent from turkey pretty soon here. Egypt also opened up their borders today. I just hope Hamas doesn't do anything stupid to further provoke Israel during this time like try to smuggle weapons in.

The truth is the soldiers were equipped with paint-ball rifle and guns.
When the helicopter dropped the first soldiers the guys on the boat tried to take down the helicopter by tying the cable to an antenna and throwing stuff into the rotors; The pilot had no choice but to cut the rope and leave 4 soldiers alone on the boat. Some crazy as Turkish beat the shit out of them with metal bars and stabbed a couple, then threw a soldier to the lower floor, 10 meters drop, and the guy was almost dead. Then the protesters took 2 guns off the beat up soldiers and opened fire. Only then other soldiers boarded and shot back, aiming at their legs. Most of the dead guys died because they didn't get treatment on time. Bottom line, the whole thing was the best the Palestinians could ask for; Israelis killing poor Peace makers in front of cameras.
I still think the whole thing was stupid cause we could've simply not let the boat through but nobody expected the protesters would try to kill anyone or act as violent as that.
About the humanitarian aide, we did send all of what was on the boats to Gaza.
This is also a way to look at it.

I have the best solution. USA trades all the land of Israel for all the land of Florida. All the Israelis move to Florida, and we let them continue on ethnically cleansing all the Floridians off the face of the earth. Yeah I think everyone knows south Florida has a large Jewish population, which only supports my suggestion further. They seem to like the place. I say let them have it as long as their willing to clean up all the garbage walking around. If Israel wanted to they could probably annex it without USA doing anything about it. We would probably send them munitions, and money to support the cause. Canada, and the UK would be down with that shit too.
Its really the most logical solution.

from what i have learned and studied, i would suggest that religion was and has mostly been secondary to this conflict, though it does provide an extremely potent fuel to mobilize mass support on both sides... it's a good diversion and sounds like a noble cause to fight for, just like the defense of the american homeland and the spread of democracy
when talking about war in general, your best bet is to look at economic interactions for the source of antagonism. it's not always the case of course, but it is a damn strong starting point
the book is a boring read, but the content is insightful
don't think on terms of some vague ideological opposition; look at how land, wealth and jobs are distributed in this region. what would piss you off more; somebody insulting your religion and calling it bullshit... or somebody systematically taking away: your land, your educational opportunities, your ability to conduct trade with the world market, your ability to find a job and even if you do find a job you now deal with severe restrictions on mobility (erecting checkpoints) and now your access to basic humanitarian aid. no doubt the whole religious discourse solidifies your hatred, but it is not the source of the conflict
the same goes for the World Wars, Iraq, etc.
