Thread: Anyone ever do Muay Thai?

Default Anyone ever do Muay Thai?

There's a gym in the area and I was thinking of investigating. Seems like it would be way more fun doing that, instead of just going to a regular gym.

personally i think martial arts is a much better way of exercising than regular weight training, mainly because it doesnt feel (mentally) like youre working out. i tend to rebel against myself when i set out things i HAVE to do. but if its something i want to do it works out much better

    i say do it

Yeah, i kickboxed for a few years and it is by far the most effective. One of the rollerbladers here went to Thiland to train for several months and he came back a fucking machine. Def do it if you can afford to.

It is definitely good exercise, but there is no way that it is more effective than lifting weights (dumbbell/body-weight resistance exercises not just foolish machine body-building bullshit) if you are trying to see a significant increase in useful muscle mass. All of the best fighters, regardless of discipline, also strength-train.

    SKILL > STRENGTH

    SKILL + STRENGTH > SKILL

I'm not trying to be a fighter, or get really buff. I'm just looking to stay active. I'll probably end up joining a gym anyways...

Though I do go to the YMCA every monday and friday to work out, because of my job.

My brother has been training in Muay Thai

^^ his first actual Muay Thai fight. He lost though. Got the fight on short notice and was out of shape he said. Also he was pissed he had to walk out to Korn.

they have muay thai at my bjj gym. since ur just trying to stay active and fit id say its a good way to go. i get a really good work out doing bjj and my one buddy in the army says he sweats more from this type of work out than his army training. plus u get some good kick boxing skill incase u have to beat some ass.
