Thread: Box Plans?

  1. #1

    Default Box Plans?

So our local skate park has officially closed down, and it doesn't look like anyone has plans to purchase it anytime soon. Could anyone point my in the direction of some good plans to make a box, around eight or more feet long, twoish feet tall. I figure someone must have a box that's held up pretty well.

if you can't figure out how to build a box on your own, you should probably not be using the tools that are required.

How many skateboarders does it take to change a lightbulb? One, but it'll take him 100 tries.

He probably could its just better to have legit laid out plans so when you start building you actually have something to go by instead of building a piece of shit and wasting your money

He's completely right, you don't need plans. You're just building a large, sturdy box. Then you screw on some angle iron, and/or weld a pipe onto it.

Fuck, I built one in High School just half assing it, and I can barely function in life.

    Harsh, but pretty much true.

Google "ramp plans" or try to get a copy of Thrasher's Ramp Plans book/booklet. Measure twice, cut once.

You can get lumber from Home Depot or the like, and your coping from a local steel supply, look it up in the phonebook. You'll need a good drill, a circular saw, a framing square or t-square, a measuring tape, drill bits for drilling your coping, screwdriver bits and a bit holder, and also a long Phillips bit for mounting the coping.

Also, eight feet long and two feet tall isn't going to be that fun. Common mistake for first-time box builders and/or skating newbs. An eight-footer is more of a kiddie box (aka stalling and doing short single grinds) so I personally wouldn't make it more than a foot tall.

The length should be proportional to the height- if you're working harder to jump higher, you're also going to want to be going faster and sliding farther (or switching up).

I built a box for Dirty D last week that's 15" tall, 13' long, and 2' wide. It's a good all-around size: low enough to be fun and easy to learn new things on, but tall enough you still have to jump, and long enough to get one switchup in at a decent speed, but short enough that doing the whole thing isn't a chore.

if you use angle iron you might want to grind down the edge so it doesnt slice right into your shin

Dont make it heave like this.......

Get 4 sheets of plywood or chipboard if your poor.....
Lay two sheets together longways (so that the short ends are touching.....)
Trace a rainbow shape thats not to high in the middle or each end.....

Cut it out and use them as templates for the otherr two...

Make a rectangle frame out of 2x4's for the base....
Use small blocks along the curved bit like supports on a quarterpipe....

Now get twp pieces of plastic pVC pipe and bend it to match the curve each side.....
Drill a large hole halfway through and put securing screws through the hole into the wood..do this all the way along on both pieces of pipe...

Lay a strip of something down the middle

Now you have a rainbow ledge...

    SOMEONE'S GONNA GET RAPED

I love kids. They're short, highly emotional people who don't know anything. They rely on their creativity and imagination to get by in the world. A world, I might add, filled with giants. Amazing feat.
