Default I'm looking for a camera

Basically, mine broke and I need a camera that does both good stills and film, for £700-£1200, about $1000-$1500.
At the moment, me and my brother are looking at the Canon 550d.
Please help in any way possible.
Unfortunately it is probably only DSLR's.
How many skateboarders does it take to change a lightbulb? One, but it'll take him 100 tries.
