    Default Finally watched Shutter Island

God dammit, I feel like a grade A prick. Yeah, it ends exactly like you expect it would, but I had no idea the ride to that ending would be so enjoyable. It was still such an interesting premise and actually raised real issues related to mental health, especially during that time period.

I'm so sorry if I bashed you for liking this flick. All my movie recommendations and condemnations should be viewed as suspect. I have no idea what I'm talking about apparently.

I loved it. Yes, everybody knew that he was the crazy one, but I still found the ending interesting because I was still guessing at the very end whether or not the treatment worked or not and still found it very surprising (my interpretation anyway) that he was indeed cured, but faked it so he could get the lobotomy anyway since he didn't want to live with the guilt.

The problem is it wasn't Scorsese's "story". The "story" is what I was having problems with, before I watched it. It's because of how much I loved his other movies that I felt obligated to watch it.

Red Rider: I think you're right in that interpretation. Especially because of how "Carl" reacted to that "live as a monster" speech. I think he really did create that fictional world, and was cured by the role playing treatment 9 months ago, but regressed because he didn't want to live with it...and that's when this movie starts.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I didn't see the ending coming.

That was my interpretation as well.

I didn't like the ending though it made perfect sense. You're right the movie was way too enjoyable for a bittersweet ending like that.

I definitely enjoyed the movie. Not that I had any doubts that I would, but I would watch again.

Leonardo DiCaprio has come a long way.

you really don't if you haven't heard/seen a lot of promotion. there was a lot of hype based on the "twist" which would lead someone to assume that there is something that makes it a completely different movie the second time, like sixth sense, fight club, and so on. so one could only assume that he was a patient. i haven't seen it, but i don't need to now haha.

The problem was I thought him being the patient was the "twist". So, going through the whole movie the first time I'm picking up all these details that support that.

But knowing that he was doing all of that stuff on purpose really makes for an interesting rewatch.
