This may be a retoast ....
But they are on par with skateboarding and BMX here in Australia as far as user base.....so many kids avoid skateboarding and BMX because they are easier and cheaper.
Plus they avoid rollerblading because its gay.
Many shops that were soley inline now have scooter equipment as their main asset.....skateboarding/bmx stores that avoided rollerblading gear have a third of their inventory scooter.
Dont blame them, rollerblading sales wont keep you in business.
In a word its crazy how their popularity has risen and a reminds me so much of rollerblading......except they dont have anything that sets them apart like roillerbladings discovery of the grind.

Seriously, and i hate to be defending it 'cos it's "sooo gAy" but there is really no difference between them and us, or us and skateboarders.

haha hating on scootering is pretty easy to do but then again so is hating on blading. if you rip it up, who gives a fuck, do your thing. scootering is just someone elses 'rollerblading'. in their eyes its the most fun, anybdy that can't have mutual respect for a sport that has proven to have potential is ignorant.
