which lens to get

i got a d60 for my birthday last year and i have been shooting with the kit lens and a 55-200mm lens.
i would like to get another one for mainly skating and some other shit.

with a budget of around 300, 400 max.

u got all the reg lenses u need now just stick a fisheye in your collection. or get something with a f/stop 2.8 or lower

thanks for the input. i was considering getting a fisheye, but i would like to get a prime lens first.

can some describe the differences for beside focal lengths, and will the 50mm be compatible with my d60?

because you have a D60 you have a 1.5x crop factor. This basically means that any lens that you have will be 150% of the original focal length. Your 50mm becomes a 75mm and your 35mm becomes roughly 52mm.

So basically, your 35mm becomes a standard portrait telephoto (as opposed to a 35mm medium wide angle) and your 50mm becomes a medium telephoto at 75mm (closest you can get to a true 85mm on a crop body without getting one of the 60mm macro 2.8s.)

Both of these lenses would be a good choice, but I'd suggest going on the wider end of things. You can find decently priced and lightly used 24mm f2s on keh and a good 50mm 1.4 as well for pretty cheap. You would have pretty good coverage in the medium range.

On your D60, the 50mm will not have autofocus, but the 35mm will. The old 24/2 or 50/1.4 will not autofocus either. I would go for the 35.

thanks for the responses, much appreciated. will add rep for sure. wasnt aware of the crop factor, maybe i should read more about my camera.

i might have just found both those lens used locally, which will come out cheaper than buying the 35mm new.
