photoshop help

need to create a design for an advertisement on a bus. i have a rough bus outline done, but i am not real sure on how to add the font to make it look like a somewhat legitimate bus-wrap. also i want the font to look hand written or graffiti-like.
can anyone help me out?

you have two options. Downloading a font manipulating it. Or creating an image of your text and applying it as a texture.

Download Illustrator. Watch A few Youtube Videos on Vector Artwork and how to use the pen tool. create your own hand (well computer) drawn font. Problem Solved.

You should use a vector program like illustrator for something so big, photoshop is bit-map and doesnt bode well with enlarging.

Look on www.dafont.com for free graff and hand written typefaces.

it's not a real bus wrap, just something to hand in for a class project. if it were real, i would definitely use illustrator so it doesn't get all pixelated.

If you don't have illustrator you can still do vectors in photoshop. The methods will be similar but with a bit fewer options..you can then save the .psd as .eps or .pdf which will save the vector imagery allowing for proper resize when necessary.

Since this is not for an actual 100% scaled vehicle wrap, just use Photoshop's Vanishing Point filter.

Open your bus file in Photoshop

Select your font (try here: http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=606)

Type what you want on the new text layer, size it as big as you need it

Select the text layer, right-click and select Rasterize Type

Select the individual letters of text and color it/texturize it how you want.

select everything on the layer, hit Crtl (Command on Macs) + X to cut the text

on that same layer, select the filter called Vanishing Point

create your perspective plane by following the perspective lines of the bus. the first tool you need is selected. if the box is red, you need to adjust the corners. the the box is blue, you can now paste the text.

Paste the text into the perspective plane, adjust to fit by scaling the text from the top, bottom, sides and corners with the content adjustment tool. you can also rotate the text within the plane to adjust how level the text is.

click OK.

erase anything that goes over wheel wells, headlights, parking lights, things that turn on that wouldn't be covered by the wrap. it helps to make the text layer about 50% opaque to let you see where to erase better, you can always turn the opacity back up when you are done erasing. I went a step further and made the upper half of the graphic more opaque because in real life, perforated vinyl would be used to so you could see out of the bus, and it would be a little lighter because technically there is less ink and less vibrancy because of all the little holes in perforated vinyl.

just make sure you erase anything that hangs off the edge of the vehicle. you can also use the Burn and Dodge tools to make shadows and highlights if needed. I did this one in about 10 minutes. A real vehicle wrap layout would be done in Illustrator, though. The only thing that sucks is that Illustrator has an artboard max height and width of 227 inches, whereas some other programs (Gerber Graphics)) have an unlimited artboard size.
