Default Shock University: "AO topsoul 101"

So I am infact teaching the course for SHOCK university on "How to do the AO topsoul" Originally I was skeptical of the idea but the more I thought of it the more I figured it would be a good way to have some direct contact with the future of our sport and really work hand in hand with them on something they may want to do. Obviously advice will not be limited to simply the trick, it will simply be the focus of the corrospondence. I will be chatting directly with them and I want all applicants to submit a video of themselves doing this particular trick at the beginning of the course and then after the course ends I will have them submit another video that documents how far they have come. Outside of the trick itself I really want to help get the youth of rollerblading motivated to get out there and shred and I feel like this is a really creative and awesome way to do that. So if anyone is interested (young or old) in learning how to do this trick Feel free to submit all your applications to kevin yee or myself and I am gonna choose 5 to work with directly, I will also be keeping you the BE-views informed on the progress of my students so you can see how far they have come! take a look at the link be-mag and also to the video I made with my teacher credentials for teaching this course on "how to do the AO topsoul

    http://stabyourselfintheface.com/?p=6034

    Applications go to Kevin at
    [email protected]

also here is the direct link to the video of my Ao topsoul credentials so the students know that their teacher is not some fluff yes I know its silly and slightly ridiculous but it gets the point across!

Love you be-mag, talk to you soon!

PS. Look back ao topsoul rewinds are not covered in the coursework, however accellerated students may submit additional work for extra credit

Goddamn Brett. Is it pretty much a safety trick for you?

I am in love with this girl.

    Pretty nifty idea there.

Also, Brett I feel you have AO topsouled more hand rails than I have skated period, which makes me feel like a failure.

Haha I dunno about a safety trick but I try to save it for things like photos and cool obstacles cause I think its one of those tricks thats really well liked but for me it comes pretty naturally. If you watch most of my edits I dont really do them that much unless its just like a fun edit or random day with brett and jeph...id rather save it. But either way it will be fun to educate some people and get them enjoying the trick as much as I do!

I've learned to do AO soul by learning full torque first, and after that I just went to AO soul position by rotating front foot inwards.
So my guess is that your AO top soul works the same way, do a 270 bs full torque and then just rotate your front(?) foot into AO top soul position?

Hmmm Nah, I dont think of it as any type of farf, I am terrible at farfs. I dont ever try to do that thing where I think of a trick as a slight variation on another trick, that has never worked for me, every trick is an entity in and of itself and I treat them as such. I have a very specific approach to doing every thing I am comfortable with on skates...but I do see how that other method works for different skaters, my brain simply just doesnt work that way.

Chris Cheshire had the best alley-oop topsoul of all time.

Learn to spin the same direction as your soul foot. If you didn't learn this when you first started skating, you're fucked. All great ao topsoulers have this in common. Class dismissed.

I would have been more than happy to let him teach the course if he was interested. This was not about being the best, just trying to help out the community in some form or another...Gonzo had just as much clout with that trick as long as it is being discussed.

Oh, one more thing, I haven't understood the idea well, will the teaching of AOts going to be shared for everyone after the end of the course, or is it only going to be available for chosen fives?

    Yeah, but Gonzo sucks.

I will corrospond directly with those 5 people through email, facebook, chat ect, it will be a very individual process, but as they improve I am going to share their improvment with the rollerblading community (if they are okay with that) so that everyone can have a chance to see some young and motivated kids get better at the sport. More than just the trick I will do anything I can to give them advice, encouragment ect. I simply want to help the youth of our sport stay juiced on what we do. Teaching this "class" is simply a very specific and formal way of doing that...Just doing my part to try and help our sport grow.

opinions on talent aside that doesnt mean he wasnt incredibly gifted at doing that trick. Not what I was going for in this thread anyways man, just wanted to post about what I plan to do and stir some interest since kevin asked me to do this for the site.
