Thread: If you could demote two people from pro status in 2011 who would they be??

I would say Montre should be demoted to AM. He hasn't really won a major comp for a few years. His tricks are not game changers, in fact, fairly mediocre. He's not even close to getting a pro boot, but that's simply Shima agreeing with my humble opinion. Plus he's black.

    Fuck your shit.

Easy answer. To be pro your skating has to have at least two of the following:

    1. Originality
    2. Style
    3. Hammers

Oli Short's skating looks like absolute shit and none of the tricks he does qualify as hammers by any stretch of the imagination. He's original, I'll give you that, but that's about it.

    Add in good trick choice.
It's not enough for tricks to be different or original. Lines have to make sense, tricks have to work well for the obstacle they're on and the skater who's doing them, etc.
    soon.

oli short was really really good, then went pro and became a hipster, vest wearing, ramones impersonator before falling off the map and no longer skating at all. then he beats out montre, joey chase, and bolino for a pro skate. thats why everyone is calling him out. at one point in time oli short deserved a pro skate and pro status, so he got it. the time to throw in the towel has come and gone.

its like when youre in second grade and the teacher is like "ok class, who wants to take Fluffy the hamster home for the weekend?" and you and several other good students raise your hands politely, but theres a 15 year old who smokes in class that raises his hand and is like, "aye, Ill take him home wif me!" this guy never does his homework, never shows up to class, but you ALWAYS do. why is he in second grade, and why does he get to take the hamster home?

    Qualifications to be pro:

Make your company more money than they spend on you.

Oli seems like a nice guy and he supports his companies well. That says a lot about the guy. On the other hand, he would get stomped in a battle with anyone who's pro. If you're only looking at the originality of the things he skates then let him battle Dunkle. Dunkle would kill him and then do a hammer.

by far the dumbest statement youve ever made on here! montre rips shit on a daily basis. every time I shred with him he leaves me in shock on multiple tricks. he won bittercold in 09 there are pros that havent won shit in forever.

I corrected it for you. But aside from company politics, originality and style are all important and this includes all types of creativity and styles, but hammers....well, hammers aren't essential at all. There is room in blading for awkward, techy tricks on non-standard obstacles. Oli and CK might never be the faces that draw people into skating (although they totally might be exactly what people want to see outside skating) but I see them as "skaters skaters" - doing stuff that we know ourselves to be impossibly hard and totally respectable.

The guy puts so much work into making good sections and all his tricks are harder than they look. If i had one criticism of Oli, it would be that he doesn't seem to have done anything to build up to a pro-skate with Nimh and hasn't promoted the skate at all. The last few years he seems to have gone quiet within skating, but i spoke to him last year and his focus seems to be on other aspects of his life at the moment which is fair enough for someone who has skated harder than most for longer than almost all.

    /essay.

Nick Wood.. And before people complain about how great of a dude he is... I say make him a mascot then because Mason Richard shreds so much harder and isn't even AM.

Oli is sick- i didn't like him back in the day but he proved me wrong with his Clip and The Rain sections. But i think he was better with the m12's - his Valo and NIMH sections were terrible....
