"Society confronts the simple fact that when everyone can possess every intellectual work of beauty and utility — reaping all the human value of every increase of knowledge — at the same cost that any one person can possess them, it is no longer moral to exclude. If Rome possessed the power to feed everyone amply at no greater cost than that of Caesar's own table, the people would sweep Caesar violently away if anyone were left to starve. But the bourgeois system of ownership demands that knowledge and culture be rationed by the ability to pay."
- Eben Moglen
DO YOU UNDERSTAND? Those who can pay do so as an act of gratitude not an act of coercion. Those who can not pay are still "reaping all the human value of every increase of knowledge". There is a big difference between intellectual property and property (some would even argue that all property is theft). I understand that this would require a great shift (for the better) in the collective consciousness of society . . . so what are you waiting for?

!!!!
i'm sure this works out all well and good in the world according to charlie. if we lived in this wonderland where we weren't struggling as an industry...yes that would be great to not have to pay for anything. unfortunately, in real life...paychecks are still what puts food on our tables. no one is getting taught any lessons here...just fucked over more-so than they usually would be.

I still don't think you understand what I am trying to say. No sales would be lost if all who could pay (would have paid) did so. Those who can not pay would never have paid in the first place. The moral responsibility lies with the individual to be honest to themselves about paying. It's not a "wonderland", it's merely a piece in the puzzle of changing the world from a place of authoritarian domination to a place of harmony.
"You must pay!"
"Pay if you can, but I would still like you to enjoy my work if you can not."
Do you see? If people never envisioned a better world, how would the world get better?
And, saying that "rollerblading is a struggling industry" is nothing but a cop-out. Rollerblading is one of the most progressive subcultures there is (whether rollerbladers are conscious of it or not). The ideology should reflect the act.
Hahaha, I got Short Cheap Flick sitting on my computer READY to be uploaded. Give me an excuse . . .
i do understand the concept...however, it's only rollerbladers purchasing and downloading said videos. i would be much more inclined to agree with your views if there were vast amounts of "outsiders" interested in purchasing/downloading our videos. but that's not the case. i'm not saying your ideology will never be applicable. i just don't believe it's the healthiest state of mind to be encouraging under the current circumstances.
ego much??? no offense, but i think it's going to take more than some radical anarchist's posts by an insignificant be-magger(with a rap sheet) to revolutionize everyone's feelings on the matter.
i was pretty sure it was common knowledge that some of the most talented, highest paid rollerbladers can barely afford to go to competitions, let alone make an honest living without having a job on the side. how is that not struggling??
i'm not saying that purchasing your rollerblading videos instead of downloading them will fix everything. i for one, would be very pleased to hear that rollerbladers are banking 5G's off of a section like ranier in fruitbooter. instead, everyone expects tip-top performances from rollerbladers showcased in these videos...while whoever is producing the video is barely breaking even in distribution costs.
