My friend got busted for weed

This happened on Wednesday evening at a newly opened skatepark in central Stockholm. My friend, Dave, was smoking some kind of herbal blend stuff that's meant to be a lot like cannabis, but isn't cannabis (that's as much as I know about it). It's legal here, either way. The skatepark is right under a big bridge, and as he was smoking it, some police officers passed overhead, smelt it (apparently it smells similar to cannabis) and looked down to see Dave smoking. They rushed down there and confronted Dave, who calmly showed them what he was smoking and said they could take it for analysis if they wanted to. Instead, they gave him two options: be arrested on suspicion of drug use or he could come with them to their van where he would do an on-the-spot urine test. Having not smoked weed in over a week, he chose the latter option and went with them.

They found 0.3 (unsure of what unit) of THC in his urine and he was handed a 2000SEK ($317) fine and has a "mark" for 5 years (get two marks and your fine doubles, or whatever). Apparently just having THC in your body in Sweden is a criminal offence. I was under the impression you had to possess some on you in person to get any kind of fine.

having THC in your body probably isn't against the law.
but they saw him smoking something, did a test, and he had THC in him, so they probably are thinking that what they saw was him smoking weed (and that is what their evidence backs).
his ticket is probably not for having thc in his body, but for smoking in public. no?

If they kept the herb he could have it analyzed for court purposes, but then again, I don't live in Sweden and don't know how much work that would be.

having THC in your body system is illegal in sweden. they have also made a new law making it possible for the police to confiscate anything that is supposed to be like cannabis (or any other illegal drug), due to all these smoke mixes you can order over the internet.

andreas, you should tell your friends to stop smoking outside during this month as the sthlm police is doing there "operation gås" this year to. The goal for the operation is to arrest at least two youths a day for smoking cannabis.

Sweden has some really fucked up narcotic politics, and there is still many politicians that push for harder laws

Thanks for the heads up, PA. Funny how going to Amsterdam and smoking weed is legal (well, that's another topic) but when you break the law is when you come back into Sweden with metabolised THC in your body. Sweden is pretty fucking dumb when it comes to drugs.

Some asswipe told me the other day that I couldn't smoke my e-cig at the mall. I just told him I wasn't smoking and he wasn't able to argue the point. If you don't want to get busted get smart with it.

hell, I use this shit in class all the time. A cop asked me once what it was.... "walkie talkie officer"

also, pushing for stricter drug laws is stupid. Just creates a more lucrative industry for runners and producers. I thought this would be obvious to people by now.

what was your friend thinking having only not smoked in a week? i would only feel safe taking a drug test after at least 2 weeks

technically he is right if management doesn't want you using it inside. it may not be smoking but you're still on private property and they can normally tell you to leave for any reason.
