when i was like 11 i did. its was fun then, but now that im older i dont think i would. im sure there r plenty of free lessons u can watch on youtube. its just harder to stay motivated by ur self, but if i can make ur self sit down and practice(which is pretty much what a lesson is) then u can do it on ur own.
i'm still here, ya wank. do you fink i wan post all the time? this is a board full of skate wankers, the fuck you think i want to hang out all the time??? fuck off.
well, ive been playing for a year i just need some pointers on technique and the more technical aspects that you can't really learn from a youtube video. im the equivalent of the kid that can 540 kindgrind but can't make a soul grind look good.

just start to learn scales and learn to play as many songs as possible. Once u understand scales and playing in key better u will be amazed how much better u can get. just pick a few songs out a week and play them. play along to make sure ur getting the strumming right and the picking. and keep playing different style of songs to round ur self out. when i was young and took lessons all i cared about was punk shit, playing power chords all day, so thats all i was good at for a while. round ur self out now so ull be better in a year or 2, and not stuck with 1 style.
yeah, but there's a lot of little stuff im bad at that is the result of poor technique that a teacher can help work out with me. i can play a lot of songs but they never sound right.
well if u think a lesson would really help go for it. shouldnt cost too much and u only gotta take a few to see if they suck or not.
just practice getting ur strumming down and the little things like palm muting and hammer ons. These little things r what make a song sound unique that u might not be doing, and y u cant get ur playing to sound like what u hear. ull get faster as time goes, its just a matter of doing the little stuff if ur trying to recreate the sound of a certain song.
thanks greg. put on some pants though, your legs look like robin williams' knuckles.
play drums
you can teach yourself

I just taught myself, I've always hated lessons, but maybe if you tell me what some of the things you have trouble with are I could help a bit.
i took lessons for like 7 years, only because that was the only way my parents would buy me nice guitars and amps and shit, for fear i would lose interest
i still play just as much as ever, and looking back there's no way i could say the lessons didn't help a ton
everyone learns differently though
thats what i did. i think you would understand the guitar as much if you had lessons. well thats dumb you totally would, but when you figure the shit out yourself its much more rewardingOriginally Posted by eyes to see
Learn by yourself, only way you will get your own sound
bazodazo and Espen rules all
That's not true, lessons could give you a head start on tricks and techniques that you may have trouble with from the start. That's like saying that if someone shows you the way to do a soul grind that you will do a soul grind with the same style as them. Although I do think there is something great to be said for figuring things out on your own.Originally Posted by Kent
