Thread: Alternative sports and your family

Default Alternative sports and your family

I just realized that one of my 14 year old cousins (on my dad's side) in Hawaii is really into bodyboarding & is sponsored by a few companies, and another 28 year old cousin in norCal is into freestyle motocross and has been sponsored in the past.

My 10 year old cousin (on my mom's side) was into skateboarding but I got him his first pair of K2s two summers ago and now his skateboard collects dust.

Does anyone else in your family blade, skateboard, ride BMX, motocross, surf, or play paintball and do it with as much passion as you have for skating?

I love kids. They're short, highly emotional people who don't know anything. They rely on their creativity and imagination to get by in the world. A world, I might add, filled with giants. Amazing feat.

My cousins got me into to blading when I was 10. Pretty much haven't talked to them since then. I'm sure they still skate occasionally. They're just dicks.

Nope. My family are all shallow. (No offence to them, I love them all to pieces. Different strokes...)

No one in my family plays any sort of sport at all, save for one of my younger cousins who's into soccer. Alternative sports? None.
It's kinda ridiculous, i'm the only one who actually likes physical activity. All of my relatives are passionate about music and art and such.
    soon.

My brother used to skateboard. That's it. All of my cousins are druggies that dress like bros. They're all funny as shit though.

My brother has been obsessed with motorbikes ever since we were kids. We rode dirtbikes & roadbikes growing up, he raced MX and Australian Superbikes. I think it has influenced my skating style, that passion for the sensation of speed & power.....but I feel that sensation more on skates, even though I was going much faster on the bikes.

And my cousin got into skating for a few years, dude was fearless and would attack any line or gap I did. Only family member who ever encouraged me to skate, thanks Dan! Got his knee worked playing soccer, no more blade

Nope, I'm the black sheep of the family. All of my family members refer to my hobbies as "those crazy things you do". They have no idea of what I actually do, they just know it's "extreme"

My brother skateboarded from about 5, which I suppose eventually got me into blading. And my Mum's dick of a new husbands new nephew owns DTA and Rogue Status.
How many skateboarders does it take to change a lightbulb? One, but it'll take him 100 tries.

I'm kind of the odd one out in my immediate family. Both my siblings are into really into a sport.
My brother plays club soccer (He's looking to attract a small scholarship for school).
My sister keeps getting invited to join a competitive dance team but I think she rightly chose to have a life instead.

My grandpa (who pretty much raised me as his son) use to rollerskate all the time when he was a teenager/early 20's. He had clamp on rollerskates.

When I showed him the first Xsjado models he said something along the lines of

"Clamp on skates made for sliding banisters and trickery? First the atom bomb, then a man on the moon, and now this. WHAT'S NEXT"

I'm kind of an in between as far as my family. My sister and older cousins are mid 20s to early 30s so they're living in the adult world. The younger group are kids mostly 10 and under. I know one of them was really into riding quads and dirtbikes and shit, but last I've heard he wrestles.

I see my family about four times a year so a lot of it is trying to remember the names of all the kids again.
