I eat a relatively balanced diet. I should eat more veggies but whatever.

I'm considering supplementing my diet with extra vitamins and maybe other minerals. The idea isn't to keep myself healthy, but to become more healthy.

    Nome sane?

I'm definitely going to look into spirulina and raw cacao. Thanks everyone for your help, but keep it coming!

melatonin is sooooo nice to get a good night's rest, it's not like a downer where you will get knocked out but it makes your sleep much more restful

are you taking vitamins for your physical health, or for your mental health?
vitamins aren't going to help your depression... i'm not saying it's not healthy, but vitamins aren't going to alter your brain chemistry (not even pharmaceutical companies know how... they just measure the effects of certain drugs... kinda like throwing darts blind folded)

THIS. The (multi)vitamin market is a scam of epic proportions.

I take a multivitamin when I remember and eat jello on the reg to help my joints.

Considering the extremely adaptive nature of our bodies almost no one needs extra vitamins but having an abundance doesn't hurt. I have a very physical job and want to limit the amount of times my body has to consume its self to support that activity.

if you eat healthy and do a good amound of sports (or blading)
i don't see any need for extra vitamins and stuff, except you have any bodily malfunctions. (darwin would've wiped you out anyway)

Vitamins aren't going to help with that. Gluconeogenesis that uses aminoacids as a substrate (which is what happens when your body "consumes itself") occurs when you don't have enough carbohydrate reserves (in the form of glycogen). Eat enough carbs and protein and you'll be fine. Vitamins aren't building blocks, they're cofactors in enzymatic processes. Catalysts, basically. So you only need a relatively small amount to support the enzymatic reactions in which they are involved. Consuming more is not going to make those reactions faster or more efficient. It's only a problem when you're deficient.

Yeah if I remember correctly too much Vitamin E (or maybe one of the B vitamins?) is actually toxic. The water soluble ones you'll just pee out any excess.

Cortizone cream is so much better for that. Trust me.
