Default NEED LEGAL ADVICE: Slander over facebook?

So basically I returned home to find my 60 year old mothers roof that was rebuilt with new sheeting was done shoddilly and have had a few contractors point out the company who did it never replaced the worn timber around the edge and structually that rotted/old timber is supporting the gutters......

She's out $13,000 and it will cost me about $2000 minimum to fix it.

Can I make a Facebook page and basically list everything wrong they did and include pics?
The facebook name will be ******* ripped me off for a roof.

From what I have read if I'm taken to court as long as I have proof of their wrongdoing it wouldnt be such a large problem.

Anyone have any sites with law that deals with facebook?

Have you tried contacting said company? In Norway we got laws concerning this kind of stuff (the bad building)...

    you live in OZ...

Who knows what will get you in trouble.

In the US you could hit them with a reverse lien preventing them from getting building permits until the issue has been resolved. Visit your city hall and ask about your options.

    I can't goto city council.

I went up on her carport roof because I have to take all the tin off of that, clean the rust off the frame (14ft long), re spray the whole frame and supports with undercaot and a rustkill paint.

Then Pay for someone I found who's legit to replace the roof and gutter and an electrician to redo all the lighting and cabling so thats waterproof.
Also dig trenched for the stormwater and get a plumber mate to connect that all including to a rainwater tank.

I WONT BE SKATING FOR A FEW MONTHS AND I WILL BE $10,000 OUT OF POCKET IF I HAVE TO FIX THE HOUSES ROOFING PROBLEMS AS WELL.

I checked the height with the council permit and the carport is too high , it seems someone fucked up with that 12 years ao when it was built..

Small claims court will cost $700 and the most you can get back for that is half of what the original roof cost.....$6000.

I'm verry stressed about this shit.

    I need this guy...Mike Holmes

Contact the BBB and contact the bank or credit card company (whoever is making the payment). They may side with you and withhold payment to them.

I'm not sure if this is true, but I believe I once heard you can't be done for slander over the internet because it isn't technically in a county, so they can't legally deal with it. Of course, laws are catching up with technology now, so they've probably closed that loop hole now.

are you all serious? i can't believe the amount of fear and hesitation about making a legitimate complaint

slander only apply to FALSE statements that harm somebody's or some company's image, and furthermore slander is the term for spoken statements. the written equivalent is called libel

you have every right to put them on blast if you cover your bases and document the shoddy nature of their work.

and on top of that, just use your head. unless we are talking about a major corporation with serious influence, you probably won't get caught in a libel case and even if you did it would get defeated

i would set up the page, make it private, and tell them if they do not settle this matter you have no other options but to expose their poor business practices

just make sure that they truly did do a bad job (photos, testimony from other roof workers who can back up your claims), and you are not overreacting. and also try to document the fact that you tried to be civil with them (waiting three hours for that appointment, maybe try one last time)

you all are walking around with your tails between your legs

Defamation—also called calumny, vilification, traducement, slander (for transitory statements), and libel (for written, broadcast, or otherwise published words)—is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government, or nation a negative image. It is usually a requirement that this claim be false and that the publication is communicated to someone other than the person defamed (the claimant).[1]

Do not put them on blast, try to work out a deal.

Don't try to get even, try to get your mom what she paid for.

Every time you call, you absolutely need to keep accurate records of everything. The person's name whom you talked to, the time, the details of the conversation, and set up a pattern to show in court that you did everything in your power outside of litigation to resolve the issue. And then take those assholes to court. You gain nothing and they lose nothing by you sitting idly, and setting up some lame facebook page. You really need to get a consultation and work with the legal system to at least mitigate your losses.

    Thanks for the advice...

Got them coming in the morning and trying hard not to kick their ladder away and trapping them on the roof....

Got an structural engineer coming next week to write up a report.

One copy goes to their housing association, one to the government that licenses them, one to the government body that deals with shonky business practices.
