This review will be on going I think.
I just got the skates today skated one session at one spot and hurt my MCL so retired hurt.
Also, as I now have carbon 3s, I decided to DE-SKIN my carbon 2s so I will make a thread about those and make reference to them here.
Anyways onto the Carbon 3 review
They are pretty much the same as the carbon 2s with a few minor changes...
Improvements? Well... out of the box... No, not really.
Don claimed that "My skate has a higher liner in the ankle area giving more support and comfort." This is evident when holding a C2 in one hand and a C3 in the other by how high the leather comes up on the 3. But honestly I can't feel the difference when wearing the 3s.
One thing they didn't do that I'm very disappointed in is they didn't improve the heal padding. The session today was VERY painful and took a lot of adjustment to get the pain bearable. I hope this will be improved with the heat molding.
I do have some other hot spots in the Bambricks that I didn't have in the carbon 2 but I heat molded my 2s strait out of the box so I can't really compare.
Might heat mold the 3s tomorrow if I can get access to an oven.
The ankle strap...
It is lower on these and I think that was a good move but before I heat mold them I can't really say if it is a huge improvement or just a small improvement.
Being lower does however raise an interesting point.
On the carbon 2 the metal ankle strap protector is NOT connected to the carbon.
It is only held on by the leather.
This makes it difficult to fix if broken as its between the carbon and the leather. So even if you cut the liner from the inside and try to put a new female end in there...
It wont be very easy because the carbon will actually be in the way by a few mm..
perhaps easier to attack from the outside.
Also drilling through the carbon to make a hole for a new receptor wont work very well either because its a little too close to the edge just a few mm.
It "appears" the metal protector attachment on the 3s actually goes into the carbon but there is no way to tell for sure without cutting.
If the receptor does go through the carbon then to repair it will require cutting of the inside of the liner.
BUT if it doesn't go right through the carbon and you would prefer it to then it will be ok to drill into the carbon and put a receptor through because of the extra distance from the edge.
Actually If you did drill a hole right through, padding, carbon, liner, put some superglue round the holes to seal everything up (prevent ripping and what not) put a salsamonbuckle receptor through the hole. You probably wouldn't feel it on your foot anyways.
If you know what I mean.. It's getting late.
The cuff...
Muppet will be happy to know that USD have used a SHIT TON of thread locker on the cuff bolts.
Also around the receptor is a ring of plastic to protect the material, unlike my carbon 2s.
Its hard to tell but it looks like the cuff is moved forward a little like 3 - 5mm. On my 2s there is a gap at the back between the leather and the cuff. That gap is not there on the 3s.
The little rubber USD logo is still on after the first session... I would consider that an improvement! C2s fell out before I even wore the skate
The buckle...
male end is the same as the carbon 2 but painted black.
Paint was falling off before I took the skates out of the plastic bag in the box.
The female end is a little different.
NEW
OLD
It works and is actually easier to open than the one on the 2s
The colors...
What can I say, they work. Decided to leave them as they are.
I was skeptical if I would like the colors... But its all good IRL.
They look so much smaller than my white skates.
Also the blue is very different depending on the light. The flash of my camera makes them look very blue but in daylight most people will think they look black.
Inner sole...
It's different... no goofy red shock thingy like the 2s had and seems a little better... seems..
Possibly a little better arch support due to the black strips you can see in the picture.
Need to skate them more but i will more than likely just get a good one from the local sports store.
Other...
C3s have this material covering the base, unlike the c2s.
Make any difference to me?? Nope.
That's about it for the boot I guess.
I'm riding them with creates, crap bearings, UHMW antis, and I thought I would give the black UC pro wheels a try.
Wheels didn't grip the road surface I was on when landing awkwardly and I hyper expended my knee UFO grind style... Ended my day of skating. Feels bad bro.
Grammar and spelling can go to hell because its 2:24am.
