Thread: setup advice for an oldie

Default setup advice for an oldie

Just got back into skating after about 8 years, picked up some genesys 7.1's pretty cheap,

Anything i can do to them mod wise for better fit/flex?

Also the frame/wheel setup is crap ... i've seen some kizer fluid mcleods and pianowski m types real cheap so might grab those?

Gonna go skate my local mini ramp tomorrow an see if i've still got it haha.

What parts do you have? Razors are usually the comfiest skates stock. It will help to know what you don't like about your current parts as to not suggest the same parts again.

As for the frames, if you're riding razors stock frame those are bad and I'd get the fluids.

After about 7 or so years off, I grabbed some Genesys for my first skates back in 2008. They did not disappoint.
Frames and souplates, by comparison to the old shit, are much better. I can't imagine what your current frames are for you to believe that they suck. In any case, anything besides stock Razors/Remz (even these are better than 50/50s available in '99) frames is going to be phenomenal and will surely make you happy.

If you have those little plastic anti rocker pieces of shit, get rid of them. They make noise and feel like crap on grinds.

As for the cuff-flex issue, you can try switching to V-cut Remz cuffs. I would suggest giving whatever is on there a shot first though. After a month or two you are dissatisfied, you can replace the cuffs or get a new skate. When I finally got out of my gens, I decided to get a whole new skate because replacing the cuff would likely change the overall skateability of them.

    Hey guys,

First post here, been lurking for a couple of weeks sussing out the low down. I've been on and off skates since early 90's

I stopped for a while and picked up a pair of M12 Oli Shorts. Then one of my mates convinced me to try Razors. I Stumbled across some Razors Icons on a run out snapped them up and boy comfiest skates I'd worn ever. The only thing I did to my Icons was ditch the stock wheels and throw on Cozmo hole cores and swiss bearings. They are still running the GC Formula 1 frame

What liner does your 7.1 have? Jug Precise Vent Liner???

Best of luck hitting up the mini, my first outing after some time off was misery. I couldn't do shit and got so pissed off I couldn't land stuff I could do in my sleep in my teens...

I've got totally stock gen 7.1's apart from the wheels are off some anarchy skates (it was an ebay purchase)

Think i've been reading way too much into things, my last skates were latimer ufs thrones with 50/50 frames and reign liners, to me they were the shit back then.

These in comparison feel ridiculously comfy but look so small on my feet! The jug precise liners are real nice.

Used to skate flat but i was gonna give anti rocker a shot see how it feels.

Just happy to be getting back into it to be honest.

The kizer fluids are only £10 with free delivery so must be worth a look.

    Razors+GC=the best
get some jug liners if u dont already have them aswell and the fluids will work just fine, but do get some good anti rockers cause stock ones blow.
But for better flex v-cut liners and cuffs will give u amazing flex!!
    And welcome back!!

GCs are the softest frames in the game.

I've v cut the cuffs myself a little and it feels good, almost perfect.

If im buying frames what size do i need for a 10-10.5 boot shell? was gonna go for large but not sure which will look better.

Don't get a large, They won't fit with out modding them. You're going to want to get a medium frame for that boot size.

Ah, is that true with all frame brands?

the kizers i've seen on ebay only come in small/large and it says either will fit?

Also not sure whether to go fluid w/anti or m type freestyle.

I'm a big fan of xsjados. If your rolling in dough and can afford to buy a fuck ton of boots, give em a try. I love them.
Fuck you, cunts. I'll keep posting if I want to.

    wut?

It's UFS my friend. All UFS frames fit all UFS boots, no matter the size. As for what the best wheel base is going to be on a 10-10.5, it's going to depend on the company. Some you're going to want large, others are going to be medium. Are we getting the fluids?

    yep!!
I had the mediums on that size boot and they were a bit small so the large should fit perfect.
