    Default Dying Valo Skins

So I'm looking to dye some white Valo skins and trying to figure out the best/easiest way to do this.

I'd prefer not to have to use a pot on the stove as I don't want the dye to ruin the pot.

Can I just boil water and use a tupperware container or something?

Also, what is the best dye to use and is there a chance its going to bleed bad or anything?

If it's too much of a hassle, I probably just won't fuck with it.

    Thoughts, advice?

Skins are tough. I think you have to use acetone. Unfortunately the pot on the stove is the best way. Go to a thrift store and get a cheap one. Rinse them off with luke warm water afterwards and they shouldn't bleed too much.

Hmm. Acetone in what way? I bought some white AB1 skins that are obviously leather and I wanted to try and dye them brown.

Is there a specific dye I should try?

Is there a pretty good chance they would come out looking like shit? (pun intended)

If I can't get them like a good dark brown, I won't even bother.

tupperware wont work. I used a bucket before. It worked ok but the water lost its heat faster than if you had it in a big pot.

I've used RIT For several applications and the colour options are the best.
Stove big pot simmer the bastard for a decent amount of time and it will come out nice and rich.

I was also told that I should just use room temperature water instead of super hot because I'm not trying to dye a shell, just a skin.

    Anybody done that instead?

The skins are arriving today so I'm going to try and get it done this weekend.

Just tried to post a link on how to Die Leather it details using Hot Water just not boiling. But since I'm a noob to the site its awaiting moderation.

Google 'Rit Dying Leather' there are a heap of how to's buddy.
Is the AB skin actually leather or a faux leather? Excuse my ignorance I'm not up on Valo's actual materials.

    Word, thanks for the replies.

I just set them up and I actually really like the white, so I'm just going to keep them as is.

I just dyed my jj light skins black with this

I got mine for 3 dollars a bottle at a really strange store that sells horse equipment.

I put on one coat, let it dry, did another coat, let dry a bit and then wipe down with a clean rag or cloth to get out the blotches of too much dye. It worked pretty well, it's just shinier than the original grey that the skin was.

also that shit gets all over your hands.

I'm not sure how well it's going to hold up but hopefully the dye took well.

Will post better pics of you want them.

It's pretty cool. I was uneasy about the initial dye at first, but after a second coat and letting it dry for a while it looks a lot better. I haven't gotten to skate them yet cus I've been moving but as soon as I get some free time I guess we'll see how the dye holds up. Seems legit though cus it's for saddles which I assume get plenty of wear.
