    thanks for the info.

I took some of our tech service guys out to bars here in charlotte right before valentines day so they could mingle with a da ladies and to get some whiskey drinks. they said whiskey is very expensive in japan. anywho they were talking about "white day" and something to do about giving girls marshmellows. i didn't really understand too well based on the language barrier already present. the alchohol only made things worse along with a shortened attention span on my behalf due to hot club girlies being in proxy.

I'm planning to go up to goodskates at the end of March. Have any of you been there?
    we rarely skate with locals...
They don't like Wu and because I roll with him, they never really speak to me.

I usually skate by myself, or on rare occasion see some of the local skateboarders. I wouldn't be surprised to be the only rollerblader in the whole prefecture.

My replies keep getting consumed by moderation... no idea if this one will make it though.

I'm going to generalize a lot in this post... Not all Japanese people are as described below, but a very large percent.

    Whiskey.... expensive??? no.
A bottle of Myers rum is $11 in the supermarket and 17 if i buy it in a bar....
Whiskey is much the same in price. $22 for most 12 year single malts.
    Australia is much more expensive!

to save you a trip to wiki... White day is only in Japan and Korea.
Valentines day is feb 14, white day is march 14.
In Japan, Valentines day is for WOMEN to give chocolate, candy, or gifts to men (normally milk or dark chocolate)
On white day MEN give chocolate, candy, or gifts to women (normally white chocolate or white candy *marshmallows)

    WHY you ask?
because companies gotta make that money yo!
some chocolate companies make limited run chocolate for the day and people will line up literally for hours to buy it.

being different here is frowned upon but most Japanese people love having things that are original or different to everyone else.
I can honestly say I've never seen 2 people with the same t-shirt.

When skating in groups they generally all try the same trick...
I remember a few months back, every time I ran into another skater they were trying true top soyale or true top soul..
Only ever seen 2 people do / try a savanah.

I don't really want to generalize too much. there are a few Japanese skaters I have met that are not the same as the rest but for the most part if you are better than someone, they wont want to skate with you.

Most Japanese people assume you can't speak Japanese. therefore many will not waste their time with you.
English study is mandatory for 6 years at junior high and high school and the best most people can do is:
    "Hair~ro Mai Nay~mu izu ______________. Eye~e cun~toe su~pee~ku in~gu~rish"..

Dunno, probably because this is a new account. I included a link / photo. I'm down in Kagoshima. Incredibly beautiful here, but probably the only place in Japan where you have to clean ash out of your bearings. I live next to a volcano.

Allow me to generalize with you! I think the group think and fear of individuality never really sheds once it's been beaten into them during in junior high. That, and the crippling fear of failure or embarrassment. The thought of being excluded from the group... horrifying.

Also, you're right. This country desires and makes more limited edition or otherwise exclusive "things" than any other place on the planet. Cars are advertised to match outfits and lipstick shades. Ridiculous.

Most of the skateboarders I've met here have really great flatland fundamentals since they have no obstacles out in the country. The one rollerblader I've met here will often session half the time on his board, then go to his car and switch into his blades. I haven't experienced the skill level thing mostly because there's no one to session with, but I can definitely see that happening too.

Ok so I'm sitting at the bar, drinking, eating, chilling.
This dude behind me announces (in Japanese) that he doesn't like foreigners...

Ahhh Japan you never fail to show me how racist you are...

    This entire thread

So basically what I'm getting by all this is, when yer in japan. you're not suppose to hang with Japanese people. They hate everyone that isn't them. I think its strange just because of cultural differences. But a society that more or less runs on repression or exclusion, speaking in generals here.

Why do you live in this country? Of course not everyone meets societal norms, but a vast majority like that would piss me off.

On the classic 1-10 scale, where are the usual Japanese girls at?

I have never understood the people who wish to associate themselves with the Japanese. That's like wanting to hang out with special ed kids, and then getting upset when you can't relate to them.

    the basic breakdown:

As a tourist or on a working holiday visa that is only here for a short time the locals will tolerate you. They may even let you in the group as the token gaijin. Letting the short term guys in is purely for the benefit of the leader of the group as it makes him look cooler because he has foreign friends. They will then try to crash with you in your home country but if you ask to stay with them here they will "be on vacation" or "have a new girl that is afraid of gaijin" or some other excuse. If you are a semi-famous skater coming to film they will treat you like some sort of god while not telling anyone else that you are in town.

Another group is "hafu" (half Japanese). If the half kid totally submits and never attempts to lead the group they will be tolerated. Once an attempt to become the leader or even have any kind of different opinion is made, the hafu is exiled forever. Half kids you meet tend to fall into two groups; more japanese than the japanese or only hang with gaijin. Life seems to be hard for these guys and because of this my kid will be going to high school and Uni in the states.

Finally you have the group that psyfron and I fall into, the ones that just won't leave. Once you have a long term visa things really change. Very few long term people, especially men, have close Japanese friends. We tend to reject certain parts of Japanese life like housing. Watching the locals when they come inside my house is funny as fuck. They instantly become uncomfortable as soon as they see the huge open space and tons of light in the common area. We tend to have different jobs with foreign firms that are performance based rather than the traditional age based Japanese system. Some people get better at the language than the locals which causes them to be labeled an "otaku". EVEN IF YOU SPEAK JAPANESE NO ONE WILL TRY TO TALK TO YOU. All this is a result of history. In the not distant past, until the mid 1800's, all foreigners were confined to living in one village.

And for the part most of you are interested in..... pussy.
As a foreign guy, white or black (asians and middle eastern do not apply), picking chicks up is so easy it's practically a joke. If the chick is on a date she is away from the group so there is no social pressure to act a certain way. The chicks are actually very curious to see if the big dick rumors are true. With the love hotel industry they can date a foreign guy without the friends or family knowing. This is disposable pussy. Most guys that do end up getting married either went through 50-100 girls trying to find a level headed one or they knocked one up.

    something like that...

Disaster over the wall to back roy.
