Default Sean Wicks from Urban Rolling Skateshop now homeless!

So crazy how the world works. I remember helping him with rollerblading industry contact information when him and his Father opened up Urban Rolling Skateshop which was located in Downtown Long Beach and it is sad to hear about the situation that he is currently in. I defintely want to help him out somehow. Here is an interview that he recently did for a blog about the homeless and less fortunate. Take the time out to listen and remember anything can happen so don't take anything for granted.

Here is an interview that I did with Sean Wicks and his Father when they first opened up the shop. There is also a pic of Sean included in case some of you may know who he is.

Saw Sean about 3 months ago at the Long Beach skatepark. We talked for a short while, but I realized he had no blades with him. I asked him what was up with that and he said he didn't have blades because he had to sell them. He said he was on the streets. I kind of didn't believe him at first, like yeah right you're 20 something years old on the streets of LBC. But sure enough, he walked away and started pushing his shopping cart of stuff down the road. I bladed over and gave him 10 bucks. He said he was on his way to try and get a job and that he really appreciated it. He was always so nice. I felt crummy because I remember he had the skate shop and was actually a pretty good blader. Really hope things work out for Sean. It does teach one to not take shit for granted.

Is there any way get stuff to him, Brian? Like, send him some clothes, skate stuff, whatever?

I love kids. They're short, highly emotional people who don't know anything. They rely on their creativity and imagination to get by in the world. A world, I might add, filled with giants. Amazing feat.

man that really sucks. i got a bag full of clothes, some skate tees, that i was going to take to the goodwill. If anyone from LB is coming to the Fontana competition tomorrow I can bring the clothes so that you can give them to him.

The podcast said he was in Ventura, not LB.

i dont know his situation obviously but i was homeless for like a year or so. the hardest part about gettin back on your feet is not having communication with prospective employers. you cant call anybody and they cant call you back after filling out applications and shit. staying clean is a big one too but theres shelters and what not with showers but not always.
sleeping outside and moving constantly is another huge one.
If i had help when i was down the things i wouldve needed and had the most use for was a cell phone and a place inside at least once a week.
    food obviously too.

So, prepaid minutes for his phone. Got it.

Also, him not having a visa nor a SSN will bar him from getting a legitimate job. He could get under the table work, but without a SSN at the very least, he ain't going to school like he said that he wants to.

I feel really bad....I used to skate with Sean when I lived in Orlando. He was a good dude, and honestly did some of the most amazing tricks on coping I've ever seen. If there was an account set up, I would definitely donate!

I contacted the guys that did the podcast with Sean, they said they will reply at length in a few hours. I'll update you guys when I hear more.

I'm thinking gift cards to Subway, local grocery stores, prepaid minutes for his cell phone, as well as getting him in contact with the Ventura County Bar Association. Maybe he can get some pro bono legal representation to sort out his immigration status, perhaps get a hardship visa waiver so he can get a SSN.

A collection would be necessary to file for a hardship visa waiver, though. Those things cost about $215 to process.

According to the podcast, the shop was robbed by a shady co-owner/business partner and shutdown. At least that's what I gathered from all the yeahs and you knows.
