Thread: SSM or Valo

  1. #1

    Default SSM or Valo

I've skated Valos. Never skated SSMS.

Leaning towards trying SSMs w/ some fancy new trust liners.

    What are they like?

What if my wedding is in doors and it's just a slight sprinkle, making the day actually semi better due to the cool temperatures and smell of rain?

honestly having skated both, overall I like how ssm's (nimhs in my case) skate. I liked how they felt and were much more solid than valo. I thought they skated a lot better. The only reason I skate valo now is because they are a bit smaller and a lot less clunky. I wish shima would make a boot with different shell sizes. My ten valo is noticibly smaller and lighter than my 8-9 nimhs were. I didnt have a big problem with the weight but more so being clunky. Both are good skates so you cant really go wrong with either of them.

SSM's are kind of like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife. Real talk.

I've skated a 9 Valo, and it hurt my feet and it was kinda bulky. I know skate a size 7 SSM and I like them a lot. Maybe do some more cuts, and take eyelets from old skates and put them into the plastic shell with some pliers, double lacing the skates make them respond way better and the eyelets will keep the plastic holes from stretching and eventually tearing(you really only need them on the top 2 holes). I wish they would put back the old Vicious style liner, the new ones are a little low but they are still pretty good for a stock liner.

Cut toes make the difference I guess. They are wider as well and the heel is a bit lower, calice! Also I have a heel that is twice as wide as the other one due to a childhood surgery. Wider skates definitely help with that.
