For most of my years in rollerblading, I'd only about 10% of my sessions were with another rollerblader(s). It sucked sometimes, but looking back I'm still more comfortable rolling up to a park by myself or with a bunch of skateboarders. There's none of that awkward sizing each other up and deciding who's going to come over and have that obligatory conversation just because we both happen to skate. Sure if I skated with other rollerbladers growing up I would have pushed myself more, but what would that have gotten me? A sponsorship? Whoopie. I still had and have fun.
Needs some penis vests to be complete.
Been around through it all, loved the 90's for what it was. Priorities have changed so i suppose my views have as well. In my opinion there isn't anything wrong with rollerblading. There isn't a damn thing we could do different that would make the sport explode into the spotlight right now. The entire, "extreem sport," craze has plateaued anyways. It is going to take the right circumstances for rollerblading to become popular/mainstream again. I accept that that could happen next year or 25 years from now. I'm just happy to be physically able to shred some bowl and have some people in my life that love me after all I've seen and done. Fuck a bunch of bullshit. Oh, and this:

Yesterday, I was talking to the father of an 11 year old deaf kid who is usually riding a BMX bike but had a new scooter to use at the skate park. He's raked 17th in the country (in his age group) for BMX dirt track racing.
I asked him what his son thought about rollerblading, and he said that he's expressed interest but didn't know where to start. I grabbed a RW catalog, BCSD XII program, a big red Amall sticker and a Youth Co. Sticker and gave it to the dad. His son was super happy, put down his scooter and read through the catalog for an hour straight.
I told the dad that there aren't many rollerbladers around compared to skateboarding/BMX/scootin'; he smiled and said that his son wanted to get into something that wasn't as popular.
Then I smiled and said "tell your son, Welcome to rollerblading."
He's getting some Cults Jrs. for his birthday in August
I love kids. They're short, highly emotional people who don't know anything. They rely on their creativity and imagination to get by in the world. A world, I might add, filled with giants. Amazing feat.
Who does then? Razors? Maybe a ripped t-shirt company that will only last a year or 2? If you want sustainability you cant be completely devoid of some sort of corporate oversight. Granted the money issues may not always lead to the most passionate products, but what it will lead to is longevity, and that's what I feel rollerblading needs currently; our larger companies at the forefront of marketing and development.
That being said, I fucking love rollerblading, and you're just another example of Barcelona getting to much exposure.
