Thread: Does someone actually skate xsjado large shells?

  1. #1

Default Does someone actually skate xsjado large shells?

My valo lights are starting to kill me in the lower shin/ankle area like my tv2's used to do after several months of skating them, it might be because of the cuff getting more flexible. I'm starting to think valo are not for me on the long term and to consider xsjado, but problem: I'm a US 10/11.
I've never seen anyone with xsjado large shells and was wondering if they were actually skateable...
Does someone here skate large shells? And does someone on the xsjado team skate large shell? Just to have an opinion and idea of what they look like.

Of course, the best would be to get some xsjado 2.0, but I can't wait until that if I still have this pain at the next session...

I love my large shells. I use 11.5 wraps. My foot fits perfectly in them, and you can adjust the cuff to be more in the front or back depending on your foot size. If you don't like a nice flex, then they aren't for you. I've never seen a small shell so whatever, but people bitching about the large shell is fucking ridiculous and unneeded. Great skate for big feet.

yep, i skate large shells, my shoe size is 10-11, i skate 11 footwraps. they look and feel huge on me, because i'm only 15 years old, not too tall, and a little bit skinny. but i still love them and skate them everyday, because they're super comfy and flexy. if you can buy a small shell skeleton with a 10 or 11 footwrap, do it!

I skate a large shell with a size 11 or a size 12 footwrap (depending on which one i choose) and i love my xsjados. Ive skated razors, nimhs, and xsjados. My xsjados are definitly my favorite. Im 18 years old, about 145, and 6 feet tall. They dont feel any more clunky than my razors or nimhs did.

one thing about xsjados, they hold your foot really good, there's no foot movement at all. i sold my aragon 4's because they were just big. but xsjados don't feel that big, because they fit you really good. if you can't buy a small shell for some reason but you really want to try out xsjado, you can buy a large shell, you wont be disappointed. and they're heavy, so you can grow some leg muscles.

Thanks for the feedbacks and video. More would be awesome.
People who skate large shells do seem to enjoy it, I think the only con would be the boat look.

And Hollyboni mentioned the option of skating a small shell with a 10,5 or 11 footwrap, is it actually doable? I thought I saw somewhere that a 10 was the limit.

you can ride a small shell with a 11 footwrap. funny thing, i have a stockwell sneaker, and a stockwell 4 shoe. the stockwell 4 shoe is size 11, the stockwell sneaker is size 10. they're EXACTLY the same size in length, and everything.

can you try on in the store, or you don't have a local store where you live?

edit: Chris Farmer also skated large shells before the 2.0, but he's a fucking tank... i met him in person, he's like 2m tall or something.

No, no skateshop close to where I live. I'll be at the FISE in a few days, I hope I'll be able to try some xsjados there...

I have a hard time believing Farmer was skating large shells, in charging for example, they really don't look that big on him, but it's Farmer...
I'm quite tall too (1m83), maybe they'll look good on me.

For a while I've complained that the large shells feel like boats. I wear a 9.5 in normal shoe sizes and footwraps, and skate a large shell.

Adjusted the shells to size 9. A little bit of toe hang if I'm too lazy to put my feet all the way to the back, but that's not much of an issue. I feel much more confident doing grinds with them now.

You might want to do what I did. You might not. But it works for me, so I'm not really complaining lol

I would skate them if Xsjados didn't kill the sole of my feet after 5 minutes.

Farmer has always worn the small shell.

If you're a 9.5 you should absolutely be in the small shell.

10-10.5 is borderline, if your foot isn't super wide you can probably squeeze into the small shell. It will skate much better than the large.

Wide/high-volume 10.5 or 11, you should probably go for the large shell.

I'm a 10-11 too and I skate small shells. Larges are the worst.
You'll just need a really thin shoe to skate the small shell but it's possible.

    Thanks for the opinions everyone.
I ended up ordering large skeletons with an 11 footwrap for quite cheap. I'll see how I like them but I think it will be the best for me.

cool! i think you wont be disappointed. the only problem the plate is just too big in width and length. but the 2.0 will fix this, i hope they release the plates seperatly.

large shell with size 11 footwrap, cuffs adjusted to the smallest size.

Hey just to say I did a few sessions with my new large skeletons and they are fucking awesome.
I have as much control if not more than in other skates, they're heavy but don't feel more heavy than valo lights, and the black skeleton with black footwrap looks so fucking ninja.
The only thing I am not sure about is gaps since I didn't do any but we'll see.
At the end they could become my favorite skates ever.
