Want to buy my first pair of skates?
So, I'm going to be purchasing my first pair of skates pretty quick here and I have a question. I keep reading about heel cutting/toe cutting, sizing up/down and I'm pretty confused. Sorry if I sound stupid or something asking but I wear a size 11.5 sneaker should I be buying the same size skate as my walking around shoe? I'm looking at Valo, Xsjado, maybe USD.
Can you try the skate on? If so try the skate on.
If your an 11.5 I would go upto a 12.
Some models are thin (Valo) in the toes so you need to take that into account...
I would suggest going to a shoes store that measures feet and getting them to write down your sizing for each foot (lie and tell them you will be back) or tracing your foot or feet onto a piece of paper, scanning in and emailing it to an online skate store or faxing the traced foot to them.
Toecutting and downsizing is done by people who want small skates for the look of it and the weight.
Ignore doing that until you get good.
Ignore that because it is dumb....
You have a fairly big foot so I'd stay away from Xsjados because the big size model is like a boat......
The valos as I said are failry thin as far as width goes....
USD are pretty much your stock standard skate like Razors...
Just get a skate that fits well.

legit liners, legit frames, every part on the skate is easily replaced once it's worn out.
upgrade the wheels. stock wheels are the worst.
rocking the smaller shells is for a better fit. better fit makes the skate more responsive to your feet.
i 2nd the razor genesys skate for beginners. cheap, durable as fuck, fits everybody and their mother. size 10 shell with a size 11 liner. if my memory serves me right, even the liners run big in genesys skates.

i'm a size 11.5 as well, with a wide ass foot.
my experience with xsjados, fit very nice, some unnecessary pressure on topsides, large shell is a bit too clunky.
USD, i've tried ufs thrones and can't possibly fit my foot in, USD's run a little small, maybe try the USD 7?
Valo were too slim for my foot, alot of people rave about them but they're really just a roces m12 boot.
honestly i would go for the Genesys people already mentioned, or try the new K2 Varsities, both are solid skates to skate with.
do your walking around shoes have any space in them or are they kind of tight. if you have comfortable space then get the 10-10.5 shell with a size 11 liner. if your shoes are tight then just get a size 12 gen with a bulky liner like the old trusts.
K2's run true to size and are a great fit. however they do not have parts that are easily replaceable and can get beat to shit much faster than a pair of gens. i would suggest getting a used pair of something to start out with honestly. you may try the sport for a bit, kill your self and decide to never do it again. no point in wasting 100's of dollars on that especially when everyone and their mother has an old pair of gens sitting around (myself included). just get a cheap used full setup and decide if you like it or not first
