I guess its not as much of a set back as much as it is a game of playing catch up. I'm not referring to culture, I'm referring to education, occupation, and economical statuses. I'm not saying anyone is consciously attempting to keep minorities behind, but the residual affects of racial placement from the past is still what created the game of catch up....I guess you could say white people had a jump start on progress.

In the end, you can't say that Blacks and whites are 100% equal, I mean...it was just 58 years ago that schools actually ended segregation.</racism rant>
Lack of education is one of the largest issues, not to mention different legislation to segregate communities putting african americans into the worst living conditions.

That was a cool video, babe. Powerful more accurately describes my impression. Do you or any of your friends have that in full? I'd like to watch it with you next time we hang out if possible.

lol I am upset my wiener isn't a pringles can but that wasn't the point of my post. My point is that the things that idiot mentions in that video aren't true. Tim and that douche bag don't realize that race is a protected class in America and can bring about lawsuits if they truly are the reason someone was denied a job, education, healthcare, etc. I wish I would get denied something for being white so I could take legal action and financially rape whomever in court. Not only are people shielded from most prejudices in those scenarios, minorities have an advantage. Does that make me mad because I was born white? Not at all. I actually realize and accept the fact that the world owes me nothing unlike Tim, that douche in his video, the whole OWS movement, and anyone else for that matter who thinks they're entitled to anything.

All this because of skin colour...people hate eachother for a million different properties, but this race thing is getting all the attention and seems to be one of the few "illegal" things to hate. Agree to disagree with a racist.

Maybe I wasn't being clear... I don't give a shit about the shoe. I probably should have refrained from commenting on it, which is sort of what the ill doctrine video I posted was all about. People take the snippet then ignore the larger issue. So I maintain that it's in bad taste if you know your history, and I maintain that the shoe is a distraction from the larger structural issues. More on that later.

So you don't think that hundreds of years of accumulated wealth and economic prosperity for (some, many) white families--you know, the ones generations of children are born into--paired with hundreds of years of forced labor, accumulated debt, dire poverty, lacking education and literacy, etc. forced upon (virtually all) African dissent people in this country impacts anything today? And no, not just because white people are bad, but because it was reinforced by all the major institutions, including various supreme court cases you've probably never heard about. None of that matters? That's straight up intellectual laziness. And you get away with it, cus most of be-mag is in the same boat.

The difference is that those thoroughly "oppressed" Scottish and other European-dissent groups ended up being engulfed into what we know today as "whiteness" in the US. And today, the vast majority of us white people--even descendants of the Irish and Scottish you describe--are doing (relatively) fine. That's the difference. And it didn't just happen to end up that way. The deal was: OK, you can be a part of our (white) club, but if you DARE stand in solidarity with those negroes, you will be shunned. And we took the bait. I'm not saying this to instill guilt; hell, times were tough, and it was in our economic interests to accept supremacist ideology in order to survive in this dog-eat-dog capitalist economy and scapegoat others--to at least give our tacit consent. People of color and various immigrant communities became that scapegoat. So that happened.

And infowars.com? Alex Jones? Really? That's your source. :/

I agree with parts of this. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "its hard for white people not to be racist, simply because, others minorities want them to be." I think it's hard for white people not to be racist because we're raised from the crib up to be just that. First through our parents and family members (especially our elders), second through our racist curriculum in schools, and third through the images we are bombarded with on TV, in magazines, etc.

As for desegregation, I'm in the process of studying the history of race and education in the US, and the fact is: schools are MORE segregated today than they were in 1954. Brown v. Board put integration on paper, but there really was no way to enforce it. A lesser known effect to the 1954 supreme court decision was the dissolving of Black Teacher Associations, because they were folded in with the mainstream avenues of (white dominated) teacher unions. Due to "seniority" most black educators lost their jobs outright, and that's one reason you see almost solely white teachers in front of entirely black and brown classes today. And research shows that this is damaging for those students, especially if they come from a chaotic family life, and lack role models. On the other hand, you will never see a majority black staff in any school with white children in the US. There are laws in contracts here in Rochester I could cite that would actually make it illegal. More stuff on so-called "integration" at the bottom of this post, but things are waaaay worse than the dominant narrative makes it seem.

It's actually arguable (and I would argue it) that although the conditions were horrendous, African-Americans by and large were better educated before 1954. My point here is not that we should return to that time, but... basically... we did it wrong.

Hey Chris Fortune, I can't remember the specifics of the last time you created something in your mind and attempted to take it out on me (and then proceeded to make an ass of yourself and eventually stop commenting on the thread), but do we have to go through this again? Just because you say something "is untrue" doesn't make it so. Just because you say something is true (such as that I "act entitled") also doesn't make it so. When I mentioned intellectual laziness waaay up in this post, I was talking about you. If you want me to post relevant articles backing up what I'm writing here, I guess I can do that, but you've already dismissed anything I'm about to post with your initial comment that you don't like to google stupid shit. Again, intellectual laziness.

So, even though I know you won't read this, here is some evidence, clearly cited, clearly factual--it was actually published by the US Government. Check it out. http://www.nps.gov/nhl/themes/Education%20Deseg.pdf

Gonna also just throw this out there:

And yeah, that was a pretty jumbled response, but it'll have to do for now.
