Default re-did my 1998 remedyz (pics).

this probably belongs in r+h, but i'm juiced on them and everyone loves 98's.

i bought some brand new 98's off here a couple years ago (size 7 w00t), and did a mod with full carbon souls shaved to fit. because of remedyz raised heel and weird shaped bottom, the souls never fit perfectly flush, and skated pretty sloppy because of the side flex that would happen between the frame and the boot. i only rode them a few times, broke the plates doing a big gap, and then had them in my closet for a while until today. for this time around, i wanted the frames closer to the boot with no flex, and a more solid feeling soul.

what i ended up doing is donating some new carbon souls, but just scoring and snapping off the positive souls. i secured them at front, back, and at the backslide plate. these things are more solid than stock souls on pretty much every skate, they are countersuck and held on the inside of the shell with t-nuts. i also did 95% of the plastic trimming on the boot itself and not on the soulplates, so that replacing souls will be a 10 minute process at most next time. for the frames, i used some unreleased 'natural' colored 5050 cores (thx #jthursday), because they match the suede of the boot quite nicely and the metal core gives a much more solid ride on these soft boots. i also made spacer plates out of the ufs receivers from the carbon plates, to go in the heel. this allowed the skate to sit much closer to the ground/frame, while still allowing for the shell's slightly raised heel. now, to the porn; sorry they're a bit small.

rode them today, they feel much better now... amazing even. these skates seem to have super toe roll powers...

You're going to be grinding on that bolt in like 10 minutes of skating a ledge.

For all of that work I'm surprised you did this. Ya ought to put two on either side of the backslide on the BOTTOM of the sole. But cool! overall.

I had a friend willing to sell me some of the black remz with red piping back in '98 for $50. I haven't skated seriously in 7 or so years and I still regret not buying them.

Edit: with the matching black and red non-ufs 50-50 frames.

ok cool, but do they skate good enough to be your primary setup?

You should probably use a Nimh/SSM soul plate.

i had my reasons. the carbon plates are too thin in most spots to countersink bolts without tearing through the souls, if you look the bottom soul screws go through the thicker parts of the plate, where they met the contours of the carbon boot. this wasn't possible at the backslide, and the plates felt a little flimsy with nothing there. they are countersunk quite deep, and anyways...

they do skate quite nice but the support is definitely lacking... like make deshi carbons seem like usd c1 lacking. i have 8 or 10 pairs of skates that i switch between, these ones will see use mostly at parks and clean street spots.

i had '98 remz with white cult souls/black backslide plates and red fiziks wayy back in the day. also had some '00 remz with trs souls/midsouls and GCs. kept my '99 remz stock with just some GCs.

there used to be a "how to" write up i did on how to do the cult souls/backslide plates but i havnt been able to find it in years.
