Thread: Dear Be-mag: should I get usd carbons?

Default Dear Be-mag: should I get usd carbons?

First off, I LOVE the way my remz haffeys feel. When they are laced loosely with a velcro strap, top sides, torques, cess slides are super easy, and I can take them on/off without untying anything.

The remz loose fit flex makes them slow, but that matters when I skate vert about 50% of the time. I got a pair of RB solos which feel like ski boots but roll super fast and make a difference like 3+ feet higher out of the ramp. Most of my slides on these skates feel stiff and clumsy.

So now everyone tells me carbons have great flex. I'll keep my remz for street. The solos have to go. I'm searching for something on vert that works well with high speed but has enough flex so top sides and unitys on flat 4's are less difficult.

What do u think? carbons worth it?

    sure.

BUT you are probably better off on adapt.
They are REAL carbon, soul plate looks better and the Vegans are cheaper than the USD carbons.

The customer service on the carbons for me has been epic on all accounts.
    I broke carbon 2s
    they were replaced
    broke the replacements
    they were replaced again.
you cant ask for more than that.

Carbons are amazing, but you won't be able to skate them loose.

you can do those tricks in any skate with any amount of flex.
It all depends how good you are.
Though i have not used adapts yet, the flex in an adapt is comparable to a carbon2/3.
I can do negative topsides in carbon 2/3.

It's not the skate it is you.

That's because it is. I know you were being sarcastic, but what you said is actually true. Skates are the tools you use to perform the tricks and they don't do them for you. If you can't do a soul grind, changing skates won't make a difference.

All I am looking for is a pair of skates SLIGHTLY STIFFER THAN REMZ HAFFEYS. I thought carbons might be the way to go. Spare me your obi wan kenobi crap about how "its you not the skates" that is obvious and I've been skating for over a decade. I PREFER a boot with lots of flex. Havent you ever bought a pair of skates that you just hate the way they handle? For me that is stiffness. Dude they stiff cuffs literally tear up my shins after skating for a few hours, so I ride them almost completely unbuckled!

Later today I'm going to order some remz os4s and some carbon frees. try them both out. I hear carbon frees have more flex than carbon 2s.

Been skating for over a decade?
I've been skating for over 2... So what?
That shit doesn't make me an expert and it sure as fuck doesn't make you one.

Admitting that you don't use your buckles!
Do a gap and break your ankle!
Haven't broken one in 10 years? That's not skill; It's luck! Yea Haffey rides remz but he wears them tight as FUCK!

    Ever had a skate I couldn't use?
    YES salomons.
    Going from Khutis to Feinbergs......
That shit sucked and it was hard as fuck to do top souls. Guess what I GOT BETTER.
NOW it doesn't matter what skate I use or how tight it is.

    In answer to your questions.
Yes, carbons (and carbon frees for that matter) can be loose but then whats the point? They are designed to be tight.
My waist size is a 32 can i wear size 40?
I don't use my buckle, and want something stiffer.....
For over a decade of experience you seem like one hell of a noob.

After my above rants i went for a piss......

while i was there, removing some of the alcohol from my system, it made me recall the remz i used to ride and the fact that i also used to complain about chronic pain on the inside of my leg / shin area from the cuff digging in.

SO some info you may find useful.

after i simply couldn't ride them for the pain, i got.
Xsjados - too flexy when skating from spot to spot.
Razors genesys - big heavy sloppy. (they were a size too big)
rollerblade SOLO- hurt my feet because the skate is the wrong shape for me.
Carbon 2 - loved them but the skin ripped apart and eventually the carbon broke.
    Carbon 3 - see above.
Classic Throne - still riding them. feels good man.

What's your deal youe like half being helpful and half being a prick. I'm not interested in starting some retarded online pissing contest about whos the expert fuck that I've got my style youve got yours

Nobody skates completely without buckles man that would be a shit show. I tighten the hell out of my laces and keep the cuff loose and if youve ever tried low cut remz thats exactly how they feel its awesome! Still though thanks for the advice about xsjados and thrones I've never tried those.

Thanks roboticnat I'll give that a shot if the frees feel stiff

Petew, Jesus you're really flying off the handle for no reason. Maybe Psyfron didn't answer your question initially; just clarify that you want to hear actual comparisons of flex. That's all you gotta do. Chill the fuck out.

the problem you describe sounds exactly like mine.

    leave remz, never look back.

I haven't had pain like that from any other skate.

    I'm sorry
I suck at message boards for some reason my writing style always comes across pushy. Thank you psyfron for sharing your experience

something you should watch out for with carbons, is that theyre really low cut. it can almost give you too much flex.
i cant topside in them, it makes my ankle hurt due to lack of support.
also because of this they feel really flimsy and wobbly when im just standing around in them, and i wear them tight as shit.
in conclusion i suck at skating

that should clear everything up for you

I been on remz for a year then took a break and just started skating again. I found out they are a size to small and when I skate them the indside of my foot kills me(flat feet) so I took a lighter and burned the inside sides of the shell till there were no more pressure points lol. But they are still a size to small and squash my toes so I ordered a pair of carbon 3 bambricks, got em brand new for 200 with shipping. I will update you with how they skate and feel compared to remz.
