I drove from central Mexico to southern Mexico. But that was back in 2007 and I had street cred back then.

and my take on "the shit" weather it be in the ghetto or other "dangerous areas" is that if you arn't involved in "the shit" nobody will fuck with you. Don't forget about all the kidnappings happening there. Also, they hate what is happening in Arizona (Mexicans being harassed by Americans) and they tend to take it out on American tourists. When I went to Guadalajara 2 years ago I caught a plane to TJ to come back to CA. The security there totally fucked with me, telling me that I was in Mexico illegally and they tried to take me into the interrogation room. I was with my wife, mother-in-law (Native Mexican) and sister-in-law, who all speak perfect Spanish. They tried talking to the guy but he ignored them and continued to yell at me in Spanish. They let me continue my travel but they stressed me out for no reason.

I met a British dude a few summers ago who was hitching all the way from Vancouver to Panama. Crossed the border at Jaurez, & I think he rode a bus most of the way through Mexico, staying on ppl's couches in between travel. He made it without any problems.

Also a few years ago my brother drove from Central CA down to Guadelajara, then back. Again, no problems.

also, i dont think mexico is as crunk as lets say nica, where the cops are asking for bribes on the daily. My mom and my aunt used to take the bus from LA to san salvador back in the day but i figured driving would be a little bit cooler. PS id prolly be rolling solo
