    I've heard that before learning tricks, a majority of japanese practice learning HOW to skate first.
    then after they feel comfortable with their movements, they learn tricks.
    that would explain the epic swag.

    also, jocking chiaki ito instead of david sizemore might come into play.

    all the kids i first started skating with were all hockey players. we learned how to skate by the time we were like 6. everyone got so good, so fast, when rollerblading was "cool". back when royaleing a rail was still considered hard, a couple of my then 12-13 year old friends were doing it. but only one of my friends stayed with it through the years, and he is really sick.
