Brampton Comp 14th of June
For most of you reading this, you may be wondering what Brampton Comp is all about. This rollerblading competition is like most others - it promotes people to come out and skate together. I organize this event for that sole purpose. On June 14th of this year I am happy to say that I will be hosting the third Brampton Comp.
I grew up in the city of Brampton, which is a suburb of Toronto. When I heard about the possibility of an outdoor concrete skatepark being built, I was extremely excited. I have never had a good skatepark close to my home, so I naturally felt obligated to get involved. When the park was completed I contacted the city and asked about running a rollerblading competition. Like a lot of people in Canada they had no idea kids pulled stunts on blades, so it was easy to impress them and get their support.

The rollerblading scene in Toronto has taken some hard hits in the past. Since the deterioration of the Toronto Skate Battle (TSB), there hasen't been many competitions that have survived over the years. Most Torontonians have had to travel to Montreal and compete in the Montreal Classic if they wanted some strong competition. I am hoping that the Toronto blading scene will start to grow again, and gain more popularity. A few summers ago, we had the opportunity to produce a section for HeyDude 3, and that got a lot of the core street skaters in Toronto pumped up. Shop-Task has been supporting the Canadian scene, and now Bladr has started up in Toronto as well. We have also been fortunate enough to have some very enthusiastic bladers move to Toronto, and that has helped out the scene.
I am hoping that the Brampton Comp will encourage younger bladers to start up, and continue to grow the scene here in Toronto. In the end, we just want to have fun. That is what rollerblading is all about.
